I used to talk to Holly all the time, mainly because it made me smile that she wagged her tail so much while I was talking to her. I miss her....

Maybe in the past rescue dogs were tough work. But these days, they're better, due to the fact they're looked after pretty well and have a bigger profile. I know for a fact that a lot of dogs in the rescues here go to a 'foster home', rather than the rescue centre, so they get socialised and live with a family for a bit, so they're good to go when someone wants to adopt them
You'll be surprised at the kind of dogs in the shelters, we got our Pointer/Australian Shepherd mix from a shelter, surprised she wasn't snapped up before we got her (she was 7 months old when we got her). Turned out, she had a 'naughty' label attached, when actually the issue was she just needs lots of exercise due to her breed!

I certainly wouldn't do what a friend of my husband just did, and get one from an Amish puppy farm. She spent $800 on the puppy, I can get a rescue puppy for less than that and I won't be encouraging people to make money from dogs suffering. I wasn't impressed by her, she said she didn't like to ask too many questions and she couldn't say no to her daughter who had fallen in love with it. It's beyond belief that supposedly intelligent people can be so dumb.......

While we're in Oz, our dear old furry friend Murphy is being looked after in our home in the UK by a pet sitter. There's a church yard nearby that Murph absolutely loves - he might be thinking he'll find a bone in there? You're not supposed to take dogs in there, but when the gate's open we've been known to give in to his insistence that we walk THROUGH the church yard, not around it. If the gate's closed, he gets a cob on.
Our pet sitter sent us this photo today, taken on Murphy's morning walk

It was just over 2 months after this photo was taken that we got the horrible news about his kidney cancer, and our beautiful 12 year old mate went to sleep. We miss him so much, every single day.

I've just read your earlier post about losing Holly, and I thought the way you explained about waiting until you missed having a dog, rather than getting one to replace Holly, made so much sense. Looking forward to seeing your new furry friend, who will be a very fortunate girl/boy indeed

I never post on here anymore but am breaking that rule just once in view of the subject of this beautiful thread. It was exactly a year today that we lost my beautiful boy Jake/aka Stinky on B. Expats.
I particularly was immensely close to him and miss him hugely even now. I just read through the thread back then about him and shouldnt have done as I was in tears again, a year later.
These photos were some of my favourites- the Cowgirl one particularly, taken during his Stinky's 12 days of Christmas ordeal! The toys were the ones given at his last Christmas which were donated to way less spoilt dogs at the SPCA along with all his other stuff. Dogs on here are beautiful and I couldnt resist this single post. Oink I know loved him. I was also sorry about Spouse's loss of beautiful old Murphy. I knew just how you felt.

I really miss you and Snoop posting although I fully understand your reasons. Your contributions to BE were so valuable and helped so many people. I hope all's going well for you both.

They have been with us a while and made the journey across the pond a few years back.
