The Vulcan bomber, a "military spec Concorde", was always one of my favourites at air shows, when they did a slow pass over the length of the runway, then turn away from the crowd and "open her up". It wasn't just a noise, it was something guttural that made every fibre of your body vibrate.

The RAF used to fly their VC-10s into Aldergrove quite frequently and the approach for runway 07 was pretty much right over our town. The bassy rumble of the Rolls-Royce Conways on that one was a great sound.
