If she could hear she wouldn't care.

They have (in my area of Aus anyway) all their vet checks, microchips, desexing done prior to adoption. It's the only way people should go.

Here's my latest foster, Jessa. She's due to go to her forever home in two weeks, they fell in love but had a holiday booked so I've got her in my spare room. She's only there because the previous foster, Maisie, went to her forever home the night before.
They both look great!

I don't think that I could foster. Even if the hooligans accepted an interloper, I would probably become too attached for my own good.

I do agree with your comments if what you are wanting is a basic pet, companion etc.
I do see where moneypenny20 is coming from; apart from the current pair of hooligans, all of our previous cats have been rescue cats, and they've been great.

But, I'm with mikelincs in that the breeder route is the only way to be sure of quality - not that we'd be looking for pedigree/pure-bred, just general health and early caring. It goes without saying that I would never go to a pet-shop or puppy farm.

As well as trying rescue centres, I would look to a small scale breeder for puppies as I consider that the socialising period to be extremely important and time critical, and although an older dog may be perfectly sociable and calm, it won't have learned 'our' ways.

People often remark on the way that Pim and Pom behave here with us, and we simply believe that it's down to the way we brought them up.

You would think they would put in a cat flap.

That bottom-left door panel slides out of the way.

That's one-way going out though, isn't it? For the departing rats I mean.

I imagine the law there lets them know when he's at the door. I doubt he lets Amazon leave parcels on the step.

Who needs a cat flap when there are humans standing either side of the door 24/7?

Those aloof cats might prefer their own entrances just to show their independence.

Our wonderful hooligans are 6 of our 'human-years' old today!

We didn't get them here until they were 9 weeks old, but OH received an email from the farmer's wife 16/04/12 announcing the birth of the litter.

They are still the same play-fighting, mouse-catching, cuddle monsters as ever ...
