We took possession of 19 kittens and three mummas today from a kill pound. We were expecting more mummas, not sure why they didn't come. I now have my seven from before as well as nine new ones and one mumma who seems quite happy to parent all nine. They had a four hour journey followed by a bath and a big feed so letting them settle before naming, weighing and photographing.

Oliver, he is estimated to be around 2 years old, but age unknown. Not much is known about him, but he was a stray hanging around the hospital in spring and part of the summer before going to the humane society, he is very friendly, and outgoing, loves dogs, and chilling and knocking things over at night.

What a nice looking cat! Is this a new addition to the chez Smith? They will play hockey with your stuff after lights out.

Yes, we adopted him a few days ago. He and Charlee get along well, didn't take long for them to realize they were friends, and they have started having little paytime during the day.

Every morning I find new things on the floor he played with, hasn't touched any of the cat toys, but loves throwing around socks, hair brush, toilet paper, and goes bonkers chasing the red dot from a laser pointer.

I do! Originally I was using my spare bedroom, then when that lot grew and a pregnant mumma was surrendered I moved the big kids into my eldest daughter's room (she had moved out). And that's how it worked for a year or so. Then the husband decided he didn't want so many cats in the house so he built me a all singing all dancing cat house outside that has two rooms that can be opened into one and a kitchen area. I think he thought they'd all be out there but hey at least he now has an office in the spare room where no cats go! So currently my seven big kids are in the daughter's room and the nine bubs and mumma are in the cat house.

Halloween encroaches, and this is the time of year when our cat Pumpkin traditionally goes missing. Sometimes for a day, sometimes for a few days, one year he went missing for an entire 3 months. I don't understand this behaviour as the nighttime temperatures can plunge well below freezing, and when he can be found it is invariably by lifting the tablecloth on the side table whereupon his ginger arse can be observed planted firmly atop the heating vent outlet. Where does he go and why? My best theory is that he is beamed up to the alien mothership in order to deliver his annual report on human stupidity.
We have a new electronic toy, 'Alexa', that I saw on sale for $19. This device scarily has access to all our innermost secrets. But when queried "Alexa, where is Pumpkin?", Alexa is also stumped for an answer.

This week I told the cat that Whiskas can no longer be found in the local stores, and I have had to place on online bulk purchase order for Whiskas to be delivered by mail. Does he care? This information fell upon much-scratched and occasionally turned-inside-out furry deaf ears.
