I tend to be more active at night, always have. Not a morning person at all. I think some people are more nocturnal than others, can be hard for night owls in a world dominated by day-time office hours. Might be why I do better in shift work with later starts, oddly though 4am starts are not bad for me, but man I struggle with 9am starts, no idea why...but the 9-5 is just not my thing.

I'm not exactly a morning person, but I kind of force myself to be so I can get into work before 8, so I can leave that bit earlier at the end of the day. If I leave at the right time I can be home before 5, which just helps squeeze a bit more life out of each day.

Now if you want to see someone who really isn't a morning person, that's my daughter. She just doesn't handle them very well at all.

I'm a definite morning person. I'm up at 4:15 am during the week so I can leave at 5 for work. If I get there by 6 I can leave by 3:30, home by 4:30. By doing the extra hour I get every second Friday off. Weekends I'll sleep in until 6 sometimes.

That's what my mum used to do, she'd go in at some ungodly hour in the morning and either leave early, or stay later to rack up untold quantities of flexi time. Often I'd see her on the train on my way home at 5, after she'd gone in at 7 or something. I used to roll out of bed with the minimum amount of extra time to get out the door.

I go in at 8 now, leave at 4:30, seems like a good balance, and I get no benefit for staying late or coming in early since I'm salary anyway, and all the vendors I deal with keep hours between 7:30 and 5:00 anyway, and anything I need outside of the 8-4:30 window can be handled via email. I still have to get up at 6 to get my daughter ready for her bus at 7 regardless. I'm usually only going to bed at 2am most nights anyway. At weekends, I sleep in until about 8:00 or so. But I don't mind getting up earlier at the weekends because then I'm maximizing my time off.
