I'm really enjoying this thread. Some of those record collections, vintage record players, and similar decks that you've shown are truly superb. Enviable equipment!

Regarding my hobbies over the years, it would probably be quicker to say what I've never been interested in collecting rather than my actual interests.
I could easily get into collecting vintage record players but as space is now at a premium due to my other interests, I'd better not go down that path for risk of ending in the dog-house. Yet again!
What takes up most of my spare time now is collecting and refurbishing unusual, older Apple/Mac equipment. But that's another story.......with photos to follow in due course.

Regarding hi-fi equipment, shown above are my last purchases 3 years ago from different sources. A Marantz 2245 ampli/tuner (that I had particularly been looking for), and a Rega Planer LP3 from a thrift shop.
I'd planned to offer the seller an amount less than his asking price if possible for the Marantz, but he stuck to his original price (320€). I'd mentioned that I was a keen AppleMac collector, and he then fetched out a PowerBook G4 Titanium 1Gb model (shown on the top photo) that he'd been given. It was rather beaten up, no charger, and he had no idea if it was functioning. And if I wanted it he'd throw it in for free. So I departed with the Marantz and a very unexpected Ti. I've now completely refurbished the Titanium PBook, and it performs well.
Oh, and the Marantz and LP3 sound just wonderful too!

I have a brother in law who sells Blue Circle amps for the discerning audiophile (his friend makes them); he used to sell Harbeth speakers as well but I think he's got a different brand now. I asked how much the stuff cost and was told if you have to ask it's probably too much.

Thats some top end stuff, but being me even if I could afford it and someone said that I wouldn't buy it out of principle 😂

I am pretty low in the record player equipment stakes, save for this little retro repro I bought a few years ago (along with a dozen or so vinyl LPs (Santana, Pink Floyd, Chopin, etc) but I have always had a fascination for high end turntables, not quite sure why, maybe it's the search for technical perfection or the purity of motive,

That makes for a really deceiving photo at first glance, real optical illusion stuff. Some of the more extreme high end ones are just jaw dropping, some just look like pressure cookers 🤣. The beauty of the whole hobby is that every system sounds different, and the only person that needs to like yours is you. That's what makes it the perfect hobby imo

Not sure about the optical illusion bit?

But you are right in what you say.

Back in the '80s a girlfriend had a B&O music centre (Beocenter?) - something I have hankered after ever since (the music centre that is!). Don't think they do anything like that now - had a look in the display at the local B & O centre, couldn't see one.

On the lap top it loses it but on the phone the flats on the table line up with the speaker grills. Only on a phone, without my reading glasses on 🤣

B&O have long had a reputation for valuing form over function, but the form is absolutely stunning, so well worth one I reckon. Bloody pricy though as they're discontinued, I don't even think they make cd players anymore

Ah, I get it now! Yes, form over function, that describes the lady perfectly!

I have also just remembered, my great Aunt Midge, now long dead, also had a B&O and received regular visits from the local constabulary, due to the volume!

OH dropped me close to the local hi-fi shop the other day, so that I could do a bit of window-drooling. They have a second hand anniversary-edition rp6 in the window,

Spoiler:

luckily for me the shop was closed for lunch.

Walking home I had a bit of a re-think; I am selectively ripping vinyl for use in the car, currently through a somewhat tortuous and lossy route, so I had a look around and found a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Phono USB DC for a shade under EUR500. I haven’t found a negative review of it so far, it would greatly simplify the vinyl to flac project, it’s cheaper than a second-hand rp6 or a new rp3.

Some more food for thought

Late edit: or this one , just a tad more expensive...
