Hmm. Close to Devizes... If their families are Maslen (however spelt) or Cadby or Millard, I may just claim them as cousins, for Christmas!

Something in my eye.

Certain folk should hang on for the next video. But they're alright because they have a roof over their heads.

We're just entering our 15th Christmas in Moncton. Put up the tree today and all the lights are working fine just as all the other years. It's the same tree we bought from Walmart in 2005.

No, afraid not. Their last name was German/Prussian.

I got told off for a good 5 minutes once for buying red and white kitchen roll (Saints stripes I'd call it). I didn't look at the price so couldn't even tell her how much it was, quick receipt check and holy hell Waitrose here take the piss at times, £9 for two rolls.

Wonderful part of the world. I think there's Market Lavington or something near there and it has an excellent pub.

Wiltshire is heavily underrated as a county.

Back on Christmas - lovely thread to read.

We're staying overseas this year, always a hard choice but when you summarise it, like I have for anyone bored out of their mind, it's not the end of the world to stay.

Good bits:
It's sunny and lovely.
We're in our own home and we're alone together for Christmas (never happened before, only twice in 9/10 Christmases have we even been together).
Festive markets are everywhere, but you can go in shorts and t-shirt and it's beautiful.
Boxing day walk on the beach.
The apartment is uber-festive because we're staying.
Quit my job last week so I'm working notice (agony) which means slacking off and leaving early. Might even mean a round of golf one afternoon this week.
Work festive lunch for the select invitees tomorrow, which means boozing on their dime and not working (fingers crossed still invited )
Few friends have stayed so will see them lots over the period.
Will be here and ready for NYE which is a bonus.
Christmas here is now so much bigger than it was 8/9 years ago when we moved.
M&S food now deliver - I know.

Bad bits:
Still annoying to book Xmas and Boxing Day as holiday and it's the only time off I have.
I will miss Mummy and Sister on the day and the traditions we have as a three. It's a funny little team but it's wonderful the three of us on Christmas morning.
Boxing Day was Granny's birthday so this is year two without her. I'll be missing her a very great deal.
Boys time with Dad. Will have to make up for it when I'm back next at Easter (poss) and go to the football or rugby together.
Won't get to see Saints play over the period. Boo.
Trying to find food-safe bags / buckets to brine the turkey in is ****ing agony. Also, can't just 'leave it outside' because it's 25C. Thank goodness we have a big fridge.
M&S food don't deliver in our area yet - I know

So basically, it's going to be good, but tough being away from family, but that's part of growing up I guess.

We're home an awful lot in 2020 and were home 5 or 6 times in 2019 so it's never that long without seeing them all, it's just not as easy this time of year is it.

Wiltshire is heavily underrated as a county.

My parents retired there, right on the Dorset/Wiltshire border. They used to refer to it as "darkest Wiltshire" because it was so "undiscovered" at the time. (Yes, I know that's not really an acceptable term but they didn't mean anything unpleasant by it vis a vis the African continent).

When I visited them, there, one of my favourite runs was up here, on the downs by Win Green (in the pic distance), White Sheet Hill, and Caterpillar Wood (local name, not formal).

Sigh. We buy candles and these hanging sticks for that smell. Real trees here are hard(ish) to get hold of and when you do they seem to start at about £200.

People wax lyrical over the Yorkshire places up there, but my goodness the South West is a stunning place. Anything from (and including) Wiltshire to the west is just glorious. I could get from Salisbury to North Devon for a weekend surfing on Caribbean looking beaches in under 3 hours, traffic permitting. In the same time you could probably be in your car in Holland. God I miss Europe. These idiots back home fighting each other don't know how lucky they are.

OMG *jaw drops to floor*

Wow what happened? I cannot believe I missed this. I am so stunned that this has passed me by completely: surely anything filmed around or about NZ with Kiwi in the title would have received great fanfare and big ups all over the media / social media.

I might give it a watch later, it's available on TVNZ on demand for another 6 days only.
