My thought is that he got tangled in a line . Was cut free but the leg was damaged. His beak also showed signs of injury when he first returned. He stayed out a good few weeks likely unable to return.

We are. Some of them take the most wonderful screen captures and others are good at recording bits of vid.

Some good footage right now. Around 17:15pm. Mum is in . Feeds and then moves away a little for a bit of a sit and to entice the chick to come to her which Pippa does having a right old chunter as she does. She is really full of chat. The cam op kindly pans and zooms

Lovely to see a parent and chick for World Albatross Day.

I've missed this thread so much after being in the twilight zone for several weeks. I didn't even know about dad's injury, so glad that the general consensus is he's recovering albeit slowly.

Thanks for all the vids, pics and comments

A baby seal comes for a moonlit visit but not to serenade. It was likely having a wander to get away from the adult male seals. Quite a steep climb from the shore but pups will do this. They are more able, athletic and hardy than they seem.
One can see seals on Pilots Beach which is to the left of the albatross colony . The same little cover where the little blue penguins raft ashore of an evening.

Pippa didn't seem to notice it until it had moved right past her. I thought awe cute, the young aren't scared of each other, and then she sat up and gave it the same look she used when the cat came through chasing bunnies. She's young but big as a turkey and has a paring knife growing out of her face. Not to be messed with.

She's getting a bit big to put up with being manhandled Hope those are good gloves they've got.

OGK feeding Pippa. She is getting a big girl now. Losing her down as her first adult feathers come through.

Yes. She is about there now really. She may put on a little but will drop a bit of weight before fledging.
It will now be about body and wing strength and tone.

The heaviest chick, which is a male , is 11.9kg.
