Yup we are 250 miles north east of you, and our forecasts are about the same. I’m surprised, I’d always assumed that Toronto was a bit warmer than us, being on the lake and all ...

Yes you would think 250 miles would make a difference. I always assumed Toronto winters would be much worse than NJ...they are not. The lake does offer some protection from the snow that’s for sure. Although the snowfall a few miles north of us can be much worse.

A very balmy -4C here, lots (it's all relative) of snow.
I realised last night that I hadn't yet drained the outside taps, but wasn't going to try that in the dark. This morning, the first one was fine (has almost no outdoor pipe run) the second took several hours to defrost and drain. Sorted.

Not quite the 8" of snow yesterday. We got a smidge over 6 though.
Expecting another 6 inches tomorrow, and then another snow storm later in the week.

Been snowing hard here all morning, but I think it's about to taper off according to the radar. Temps due to go above freezing at the weekend, so we'll get a bit pile of slush and then it will refreeze and the whole place will become an ice rink.

Hoodies, blankets and lots of clothes. We kind of look live a homeless couple.
I am only supposed to complain about the weather in the summer when we flood and get hit by crazy hurricanes. Winter has gone crazy in Texas and Texas can't cope!

We dropped to 14F. They started rolling blackouts at 2am this morning and by 4am it didn't roll back on. We have no power, no heat and probably no power until Tuesday or Wednesday. The roads are ice and as cold as the house is it is probably safer than being on the roads!

You will have to rely on M to keep you warm for a day or so.

In place with this sort of weather there are a lot of snow ploughs, and they are out salting/other ice melt substancing the roads before the first flakes fall. Then they carry on plowing and salting right through the storm, in shifts, overnight if needed. If it's snowing very hard the snow can get ahead of them for a bit, but they do pretty well. It may be a different story out in the sticks.
People here are used to driving in snow and mostly know what to do. It's the rain that turns them into halfwits.
