Because I work in a different building that our 'main' office building, I get to walk back and forth many times a day to check my mailbox or talk to various people and it's just on the edge of where it gets uncomfortable for me, which suggests it isn't as humid as I expected, but we didn't get the storms you did last night.

Though we just had our parking lot sealcoated and the smell of that baking in the heat isn't the most pleasant thing in the world.

Yeah, we had an interesting selection of colours in the sky last night. That odd yellowy-green-black thing we sometimes get with storms. It wasn't too violent in the end, just rain.

Not exactly the same, can be tar-based or asphalt based, but it goes on asphalt surfaces because I don't think they use tarmac here as it is in the UK. Based on the smell, this was a tar based one.

Is it weird that I sort of like that tar smell?

It probably is. It makes me think of summers on the road in Mexico.

It's OK in small doses, like on a well established surface just being released slightly in the heat.

This is less than a week old though so it punches you in the throat as soon as you walk out the door. That combined with the (to me) oppressive nature of hot, humid air and the thick, heavy feeling it gives me is a recipe for a headache.

It reminds me of when I used to get carsick as a kid from the smell of the slowly warming cheap plastic in my dad's old Escort.

Just be glad you don't work on a road crew.

I don't, but I do hear it's good even if you are just standing there getting heatstroke with the "Slow" sign.

The smell of tar when freshly applied to road surfaces is ok. It lulls one into the false belief that the local council is actually doing something. Then it turns out months later that there'd been three blokes on bikes (two of which were probably stolen) riding around applying 'Smells like tarmac' from <insert diy supplier here>.

Yup, we had a Ford Anglia, so nothing much changed there to improve 'driver experience'.

Much better in recent years. I just remember a sickly smell on the (admittedly rare) warmer days of summer in those old cars, and how sick it made me feel. Not fun.

Luckily, warm days weren't much of a problem anyway. Which is why I much prefer my summer days to be in the 60s and not the 80s. Northern latitudes are the best.

No.Perfectly normal IMVHO. I like cresote too. My mother used to get rather annoyed when I would veer off during a walk to put my nose to a freshly creosoted fence. Very annoyed in fact when it was the convent fence as that one was rather long

This morning is very cold and frosty. Enough for me to check me duck wasn't frosticled . No central heating here so I legged it downstairs for my tea and then hopped back to bed to watch the sunrise.

I keep forgetting it's winter in half the world right now.

Likewise, mid to high 20's C - we don't experience the kind of humidity that you people do - is good for me.

Tomorrow's forecast...25 C to 26 C - averaged over four websites.

That will do just fine.

Without humidity, that's grand. We're surrounded by water though, my whole town is basically a narrow peninsula sticking into a lake, so high humidity and mosquitoes all over the place are the orders of the day in summer.

I shouldn't complain because if you can ignore the heat and enjoy the sun it really is nice in summer but still, meh.
