Been around for ages. I started coaching this in the late 90s when no one had heard of it. It won't stop english coaches selecting strength and fitness in youth football over skill unfortunately which is, in my opinion, the biggest handicap to you ever having a world class team again.

Edit to say it is ace and kids under 12 should be playing it as least as mich as with a size 4 ball.

Football sala is popular in a lot of countries and helps to develop a players skills. I think the same still holds true that the third world or less developed countries will always develop the most skillful players. Most learn their football on the streets, on improper pitches and at times not even a proper football to play with. All this though, helps them hone their skills to a superior level etc at an early age. The physical side comes later.

The old adage of "keep your eye on the ball" stops these dancers in their tracks.

It's when defenders start watching feet instead of the ball that they come unstuck. A sudden stop and change of direction is difficult to anticipate, but the stepover brigade shouldn't have a hope in hell of beating a savvy defender.

The Brazillian training has been over here for at least 6 years that I know of, and it does develop good skills and confidence on the ball, but it's only one part of the game.

Football is played in the head, and it's easy to see the players who can do it, and those who can't.

there is far more to it than dribbling skills
because the balls heavy, small and doesn't bounce players are forced to do things with it instead of chasing it, passing and shooting is more difficult, players r also forced to have better movement off the ball
also the 5 a side aspect also comes into it - players r constantly involved in the game and touch the ball about 10 times more than in 11 a side(with the special ball 15 times)
it actually does train kids to play in their "head" very well too
the brazilian schools also train kids with a normal ball as well on grass to get accustomed to the bounce
kids should not play on a full sized field till at least 14 as far as i'm concerned
it's ridiculous for their size

I've highlighted the only part of this I think i s correct. You sound like an old school british coach. Football is played in the head to an extent but you can't suggest that british football teams use intelligence in their game anywhere near as much as a south american team. Lumping the ball up to your biggest centre forward doesn't take much brain power.

Can't I? How many good South American teams are there? I can only think of two National teams ...... never heard of any of their club teams.

Teams such as Boca Juniors, River Plate, Flamengo, Corinthians etc are institutions in South America and are held in the same esteem as say Manchester Utd, AC Milan and Barcelona etc are regarded in Europe and in footballing terms can usually match these teams as well, this is an amzing feat considering they lose their best players nearly every season. The only reason that you don`t know of any of their club sides is because football marketing is concentrated in Europe because this is where the money is and thus nearly all the football that we see is from Euro leagues (unless you have a good sat system) Top European sides are well known in South America again thanks to marketing. The only time Euro sides play South American teams are in friendlies and World Club Championships, so there is no reason for most people to know them. They also export more players yearly than any other continent so that shows you the ability of their players and the teams that produce these players.

Don't take this personally but this says more about your knowledge of world football than about the quality south american teams. Where do you think the likes of Kaka and Messi come from? If it wasn't for the prestige, power and money of the european leagues they'd still be playing there.

The European clubs managed for years without the prima donnas and their antics ..... I'm sure the clubs would survive if they all went back to playing in the streets.

The European game is built on more than a touch of skill and fancy footwork, entertaining enough as it is. South America produces some good players ..... but so do we, and to suggest that the English/European game will fall apart without the likes of them is ridiculous.

The European clubs that you speak of have ALWAYS been known for their prima donnas and their antics just as much as South America, no difference. Today`s European generation is led by the perfect example of this in RONALDO

Within the European game itself there are vast differences in football style as well. Watching say for example, matches from England, Spain, Norway and Russia well you are going to see four very different types of football being played!!! All interesting in their own way. Within South America itself the football that is played in Argentina is very different to what is played in Columbia, so its hard to generalize.

The best teams today whether club or national play a combination of touch and fancy footwork combined with physical and athleticism. The kind of football that Arsene Wenger advocates..............admittedly he doesn`t seem to be getting it right too often anymore

As this thread is about the England football team, well in Capello England have a manager that advocates the above style of football perfectly and hates prima donnas.............His two spells at Real Madrid showed this, his last spell there had him picking on Beckham amongst others.
