I keep an eye out for Dunfermline Athletic (my Dad's team when he grew up), Weymouth (many happy summers banging chicks on the beach down there) and I've always had a soft spot for Spurs - they came to play Weymouth as part of the deal when they signed Graham Roberts and they bought the full team down - Perryman, Ardiles and Villa. And about 500 fans. The players stayed on the pitch for ages afterwards signing autographs. I can't imagine Balotelli and Suarez doing that now.

Along with Nani, I could add Anderson - and I still am hugely unconvinced by Wellbeck.

I see England have gone with 3 strikers - none of whom have started, or scored for England before.

A Wellbeck hat-trick should help him at United.

I have a soft spot for Fulham and Bournemouth and like to see them both win. My dad was a lifelong Inter fan so I keep an eye on how they're doing and also on AS Roma.

In terms of players I would like to see leave Spurs, well Harry's recently got rid of most of my bugbears, Pav, Keane, Hutton.......I would like to see the back of Bentley and Gomes (although the last time he played was the Carling cup I think) and would not be too bothered if Huddlestone went.

I can't imagine it either as neither plays for Spurs.

Regards other teams being followed -

I've always had a soft spot for Fulham too. Can't really articulate why but I do recall keeping an eye out for them when I was 12 or 13 and it's still the case now. Mark Hughes grumpy arrogance toward Fulham made me dislike him even more than I already unnaturally did.

I used to watch a lot of European football years back and had favored teams all over the place. I remember owning a Roma and a Bayern jersey. I'll see how they're doing still. Where I lived in South Wales a lot of the people I knew had a Welsh team (Swansea or Cardiff exclusively) and a Scottish team as a fashionable thing. I couldn't give the slightest shit about Scottish football myself. I'll happily sit and watch Dutch, Belgian or French football but if Rangers are playing Aberdeen I'm not remotely interested. I lived in Germany on and off (and one sister is German so...) as a wee lad too so I'm in the odd position of feeling some affection for the German national team.

As for supporting Liverpool - my Dad was from Wallasey - and I lived there as a kid for a bit too. He was a Liverpool man and so am I. I was actually born in Peterborough but couldn't give two shits about them.

So - Scott Parker is England captain. Pearce explaining that he believes the captain should be totally unselfish (ie - not John Terry or Steven Gerrard).

Talk Sport and the Guardian football blogs are doing their best to make this a "Gerrard is finished" storyline. Well - he is old and hasn't played well for England since.....the Germany game in 2001. And let's be clear - he is a massively selfish player. He's been as shit as anyone the last decade. And I guess this means Pearce won't be trying to make an exciting midfield pairing with him and Frank Lampard then.

Scott Parker - on the other hand has won writer's player of the year, fans player of the year and 4 player of the month awards this season. And he hasn't been crocked the entire time. He doesn't get photographed punching people in bars. Or knob other player's wives. He isn't patently racist or a massive egotistical knob-end either. He also looks like an RAF pilot. Seems like a decent choice.

Holland to win 4-1 though.

Anyone else watch the England game? Was alright actually. That first half was bloody dour though. I had to give it to Terry Venables to flat out say that a friendly where no one tries anything in the first half is a complete waste of time.

As for the players. Parker did well. The coverage did try and make him out to be Richard III at times though. Did his job mind. Ashley Young did what he's done all season long - he cocked up too many passes, made the wrong decisions and then scored a good goal. He has ability but he needs to step it up. And that dive was atrocious stuff. I do hope Pearce todl him to cut that shit out. Typically if he was still at Villa he wouldn't have played. Adam Johnson was similar but plus 10 - as in when he was good he was great but when poor he was woeful. Wellbeck and Sturridge played the way they were asked to. Wellbeck can't lead a line tho. Micah Richards had a decent showing but looked quite nervous. Nervous defense as per usual. Still can't accept that he best we have is Gary Cahill. Barry ticked along doing nothing flash. And as much stick I give Phil Jones for being a shit defender that pass at the end was very cute indeed.

Gerrard had an absolute mare. I liked the part when Martin Tyler was saying it was good to see Gerrard back for England - just as he wanked one of his famous passes nowhere near a team mate and out for a throw. So many poor passes and then leading with his elbow at one point. When he went off I really thought Pearce was putting his foot down. I really think he's done.

I have mates in Holland and they not only thought Holland played pretty badly, but tell me that the general consensus in Holland is that England are how we tend to think of nations like Poland or Sweden - as in not actually very good but tricky for a bit. They also say taht no-one - NO-ONE can understand why Kuty is allowed in the a Dutch team that good - or how Liverpool have converted a prolific striker into a non-scoring no-touch winger. Van Bommel is just ****ing immense though. He is an absolute bastard of a player. People go on about the Makelele role - but Van Bommel did it every bit as good at Barca before. He matches up play, fouls people cleverly, annoys the opposition, throws himself about and passes beautifully. I don't want to like him - but if he was on my team I'd be much happier. Robben can be immense too. Interesting that the Germans at Bayern blame him for Bayern's poor form. RVP is excellent obviously but Huntelaar is the shiznit. How he didn't show up at an English club I'll never know.

Other team is Olympic Marseille but will soon be needing a new first team as it's looking like Pompey are heading for the exit.
