UEFA mandate a maximum of 5 clubs from the same league in the CL.

For the PL, it's 1st, 2nd, 3rd + 4th + winner of CL and EL. If both CL and EL are won by PL clubs, then the 4th placed team go into the EL instead.

In the EL, it's normally 5th + winners of the FAC and League Cup.

If one of the CL or EL teams have already qualified for the CL or EL via other means, then an EL spot goes to the 6th-placed team and so on.

CL 1st-4th (+ Liverpool if they win the EL). These are currently Leicester, Spurs, Arsenal and City.

EL 5th-6th Currently Utd and West Ham (if City have already qualified for the CL in 4th. Also 7th-placed (currently Saints) will get if Utd win the FAC.
City have already qualified for EL through the League Cup and are now guaranteed top 5 (unless West Ham win 18-0 in their last game) so 6th place gets the extra EL place even if City are 5th as we would then qualify twice for the EL.

If Utd win the Cup and finish top 6 then 7th also gets EL. Here is the key bit: If Liverpool win the EL then they get CL place 5 and as a compensating reduction 7th loses out on EL as EL places are reduced when an extra CL place is awarded.

Probably explains Sullivan's pissed off demeanor as the club had specifically requested this to prevent a late kick off and being able to have our farewell not be an hour late.

Arrogance or gamesmanship IMHO.
Like Cainess said, if it's just a mistake then it's just not good enough to have happened AGAIN.

I reckon it's LvG being a knob on purpose. He just strikes me as that type.

Yes of course that's the reason, spent months planning the send off and all he was worried about was our fans getting pissed up.

Our fans were there all day there were thousands extra who didn't have tickets, the road was practically gridlocked with people from 5,30pm, we have a massive fan base (52000 season tickets sold for next season) always have and a lot wanted to be there, the club knew this.

Man U knew this, yet they decided to turn up late.

Besides I've spoken to a few who were there and this has been blown up out of all proportion.

Last night was a great occasion for us, and it was graced by a great game and win

Now are we quite sure these were Spammer fans and not an uprising of Man U fans led by Cainess, pelting their own bus?

And Frase, you said you felt 'tired and emotional', well now you know what it feels like to be a woman, all the time.

Mate - every club has a minority of supporters who are idiots - your idiot minority were seen in action last night throwing bottles. I despise Utd with every fibre of my being but even I can see this wasn't their fault.

Can I also say how pleased I was with your well deserved win last night (you could have got 5 or 6 goals with better finishing)

And for Jam I have to point out that when the ball accidentally strikes Lucky Joe on the hand like that it bounces back out - very surprised DeGea let that one go in.

Ha ha. You surely can't be having a go at DDG for letting 1 in tho??

As for lucky Joe, the sun shines on a dogs arse every now and again! He's still not a a patch on Big Dave.

As for the fans attacking the bus, well I think there's lots of billy bullshittery going around on this one. For instance, according to LVG the United bus wasn't late and was only 100m behind the Hammers bus..... and so it was the scummy fans who choose to let one through and attack the other.

FYI. West Ham are now saying life bans for anyone identified throwing stuff at the bus. Would be a right kick in the knackers if you had just secured a season ticket after several years of trying. A good shout tho. Although saying that, I bet they won't put too much effort into identifying them.

As for the game, good for a neutral as there were goals and some sporadic decent play. United were again woeful early on but steadily improved, especially after HT when passenger Schneiderlin went off. I do agree however that over the course of the game were still the poorer side and deserved just what we got.... Possibly a draw but that's probably a bit of a stretch. They did put some nice move together but they just kept on falling apart just at the end. They kind of remind me of the arsenal of old. Too much fannying about and slick 1-2's rather than just having a pop.

Not much left to say that hasn't been before. We haven't been good enough all season and are now in all likelihood condemned to the Europa League next year, which is another reason why we won't challenge for the title again next season.

ON the pitch & INSIDE the stadium, West Ham were a credit to all the great, great players of the past who have done the club proud- they battered us in the 1st half (not difficult, admittedly, with some of the onions wearing white shirts....) and should have been at least 3-0 up (how did Mandy miss a clear one-on-one like that?!!) by HT.

OUTSIDE the stadium, frase can try to paint it in whatever light he wants, but some of their scum element attacked the United team coach and helped contribute to the late arrival of same (though that in no way excuses the people at United responsible for getting the players safely to the opposition grounds in good time....two failures in the space of a few weeks SHOULD mean P45s for those involved). Deny, deflect, revise as much as they want to, the PROOF is all over social media, the live footage doesn't lie.

United are a shambles, as many of us suspected they would be by now under the clueless Dutchman's leadership. Rojo is simply a poor, poor footballer who shouldn't be anywhere near a Manchester United shirt, ever. Schneiderlin is either a player shorn of all confidence or he has regressed alarmingly from the player I remember him being at Saints- totally passive, negative, afraid to try to create anything attacking when on the ball; when your replacement (Carrick) changes the game almost instantly after replacing you, you know you've been poor.

West Ham? Very decent side, Antonio looks a real find down the right, strong, pacy and good eye for a pass; Mark Noble is a superb midfielder who should be heading to France with 3 lions on his chest this summer- criminally overlooked; Kouyate is a beast of a man, and Winston Reid is as good a CB as you'll see in the PL, would be MOST welcome in a United shirt next year....

Ok we hear all that but more importantly, and as PB suggested: was it you and the Cainess storm troopers bottling the Utd coach or was it really the locals?

No - I was having a pop at you actually - I thought it was obvious and will try to be clearer in future.

FWIW I rate De Gea quite highly and he has been your best player this year and by a distance.

Are you getting sucked into PB 'logic', Michael....??!! (ps. often, that means no logic.... )

Nah, much as I despise Clueless Louie, I wouldn't resort to bottling the team coach to get at him.... West Ham have plenty of 'previous' for this sort of thing, though the players should never have been put in that position in the first place, and those at the club responsible would be looking for a new job this morning if I had a say in it, utterly pathetic for a club in the PL to fail to make it to the ground twice in a matter of weeks.

All that still doesn't make Sullivan's comments ('the coach was not attacked'......!!) any better- a runt, as you'd expect him to be.

I see Sullivan has just apologized for his comments on it being Utd's fault as he was unaware of the "completely unacceptable behaviour" of some West Ham fans.......

Good, but as someone in a position of influence & authority at West Ham, he should GET HIS FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE opening his gob to the media....
