Terry and Cahill now having scans. Looks like Rio might be in by default soon!

Martin Kelly?

Okay I get it. Micah Richards isn't good enough to be telling the England camp that he won't be on stand-by or that he won't change his mind unless Roy himself calls him. Balls to him - you can't behave like a twat and expect people to grovel. It might explain why so many successive managers have just flat-out ignored him.

And I actually do get why you wouldn't take Rio. I realize the FA said he had to take one or the other. One - Rio said he couldn't guarantee he'd behave himself if Terry was also there. And two - Alex Ferguson said he couldn't possibly play 3 games in 8 days. So that's a no brainer if you don't have any other CBs - which you would in that case. Terry is a colossal wanker - and it's very annoying he benefits - but that makes some sort of sense. Still - he'd be a back-up. I personally think Rio has been utter shit this past season - and if he can't be mature (and let's be honest - he doesn't appear to have an ounce of maturity) then why upset the apple cart? Add EVERYONE and their Nan has been pleading for the old guard to be kicked out. It's just annoying that all of them except Terry and Gerrard are still there.

But Martin Kelly? He played 12 times this season. At least half of them he played poorly. At right back - meaning that he's not even being picked to cover Gary Cahill. He's picked to cover Glen Johnson - a player completely devoud of defensive nous and who's career since he was touted as a world-beater in the early 2000s has been consistently shit. Roy better be playing Jagielka and Lescott as the primary defenders - that's all I'm saying.

Even stranger- I've watched that Cahill injury at least 6 or 7 times. At no point does he hit his face on Joe Hart. And yet he has two fractures of the jaw on both sides. Bizarre.

Rio wasn't great this season - but he played well enough to be considered ahead of Kelly. I don't mind Rio not going, but for Woy to say he left him behind for footballing reasons is obviously bollocks.

This is looking all a bit shabby now. We'll probably go on and win it.

Unlucky...

I can see why Rio wasnt selected, no point at all in taking him if his back cant hack the schedule, and we have enough injury problems already without taking another ageing ticking timebomb. Id say thats "footballing reasons" enough.

Kelly is an odd choice though, although he can play in a few spots across the back and hes pretty quick too for a tall defender. Alongside Terry thats gotta help. But why not Micah Richards?

Who knew Hodgson fancied so many of the Liverpool squad he briefly inhereted To be fair though a lot of the call ups seem to be ex or current U21 players too... well, Henderson, Kelly, Ox at least, maybe one eye is on the future here?

JoJoe Shelvey next for a call up then?

Rio's agent is quoted as saying he can't find anyone that understands why Ferdinand hasn't been called up and that it's a total lack of respect. I have to wonder who he's been asking. To me it's a no brainer that you can't have 2 people on opposites sides of a court case in the same team and as Terry is still there Rio won't be. May as well call up Anton and get him to play along side Terry.

Terry could save my kids from drowning - he'd still be a ****.

I do see why Rio isn't going, I just wish Hodgson would come out and say "JT and Rio hate each other, they are both morally bankrupt twats and I can only have 1 of those on my team. Well, and Ashley Cole of course" But he won't.

I still don't see how Terry can be picked for the team, but not be captain. It's either appropriate that he represents his country, or it's not.

And Hodgson said he'd take Liverpool into Europe. Seems he is finally coming good on his promise.

I have to say the Guardian are really laying into Hodgson in a big way. An article suggesting that he might be tainted personally with racism is a pretty ****ing shocking thing to throw up a few weeks after he got the job over their self-appointed choice.

I think Rio should be happy to be well shot of this one but it speaks volumes about the lack of leadership and professionalism in the game - how we'd all love to have that option instead of just having to get on with it.

As for the team captain's role - let's be honest, it's marginally less significant than a regimental goat and should either go on rotation or to the oldest player in the team.

I do not see anything shocking in the article, it is what everyone is speculating about, its why "what are the footballing reasons" question is being asked. And if not now, then when?
