I just saw someone say "Surely Chelsea are out of the title race now". They're only 4 points behind City.

It's not the despair, Laura, I can stand the despair. It's the hope.

John Cleese, as the character Brian Stimpson in the movie Clockwise.

Anyone have any feelings on whether a circuit breaker is a good idea right now?

I watched a game several days ago featuring a team "badly hit" with Covid or injury absences. Leicester maybe? It looked to me like a perfectly strong side and no weaker than some of their earlier selections.

Everton had about six players (including those off the bench) tonight who wouldn't normally feature outside the league cup and put up an excellent performance against Chelsea. Away too.

Personally if a club can field a team of eleven - even if it includes 3 goalkeepers - I'd say they should play. I don't see that those players are more likely to get covid by playing than not, if they follow the protocols that were introduced and did the job previously.

For the moment it's the crowds that should be stopped. Or, maybe, instead of proof of vax being needed, make it proof of Covid infection so that all spectators are already infectious and therefore are not passing it on. Obviously they'd need special transport arrangements between home and stadium.

When Liverpool had a bunch of players with Covid we had to carry on playing so **** 'em. If they want to have a break during AFCON though I wouldn't complain.

44 points = job done for another year..

34th EPL win of calendar year 2021 so a pretty good year methinks.

We really need backup for Fabinho, without him our defence gets sloppy and we seem to be without him all the time now.

Harry Kane scores for Man City. It had to happen even though he's not their player.

I agree but I think that's only part of the issue vs spurs though - you were also missing VvD and Henderson who also make a huge difference to you defensively.

VvD, along with Dias, is the best centre back in the league and is a terrific leader and organizer. Henderson is a master at covering the gaps left when Trent Alexander Training Cone loses the ball and the opposition counter attack and Fabinho is top quality at protecting your defence. The 3 replacements whilst ok players are not in the same class as the 3 you were missing....

Antonio Conte furious over Uefa’s ‘incredible’ European sanction for Spurs

The Tottenham manager, who said his players were “very, very disappointed”, also made clear his determination to fight it at a higher level – in other words, the court of arbitration for sport. The club have confirmed they will think about going there with an appeal..Conte is not ready to give up. The winners of the Conference League will secure a spot in next season’s Europa League.
Are they really that disappointed?
If the Europa was their aim, they can do that via the League Cup - they are already in the quarter finals with a winnable tie against West Ham and Man City missing. There's also the FA Cup and depending on who wins the cups, Premier League places 5-7 with Spurs currently 7th and with games in hand over the teams around them. They are already very well placed for qualifying for next season's Europa League.

Contrast that with winning their case against UEFA and then having a two legged play off involving a trip to Vienna just to get into the last 16 of the Conference which would then mean three ties involving them going to other countries 3 times, as well as their opponents having to do the same, with all the covid requirements that entails and then the final in Albania.
Prospective opponents along the way could involve teams like Roma, Feyenoord, PSV, Leicester, Marseille

Honestly, in the current situation they are well out of the Conference while having better chances of the Europa domestically.

Winning in the League Cup is great and everything but do we really need another 2 matches in January?

If Spurs cared about the Europa Conference they wouldn't have been in a position where they needed to win the last game, instead they kept dropping points against sides they should've walked over because they simply weren't trying. Moaning about it now is just for show.
