Clarkson is self-deprecating enough that I find a lot of his stuff quite funny and entertaining. Townsend just grips my shit because he's a plum.

I thought when FIFA suggested being able to use 5 subs it included 2 at half time so there would "only" be 3 (each) during normal play.

It seems all substitutions in the weekend Bundesliga matches were made in the second half including two games where all ten were in the last 35 minutes.
Apparently that league is allowing 5 each at any time for the rest of the season.

Thin end of the wedge.

I thought it was three times, so 2, 2, 1, would be Ok. I have not counted so don't know if they have done the five at four or more times.

That's how I understood it too. A maximum of 3 stoppages per side so if a team wanted to they could do 5 subs in one go and only have 1 stoppage.

Manchester City’s appeal against a two-year ban from European football will to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on June 8-10. If I was a City fan, I wouldn't be confident but I would be hopeful that this ban may be reduced or even overturned.City are richer than UEFA and can afford to fight this all the way.

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has said he is prepared to spend £30m on the 50 best lawyers in the world to sue UEFA for the next 10 years.

In other news The Premier League has confirmed it has received six positive tests for coronavirus from three clubs after the first phase of mass testing.

30 million isn't really that much though, between 50 lawyers for 10 years that's only 60K a year.

If they are supposed to be the best lawyers in the world then I doubt any of them if they hire 50 would work for 60K unless one is hired to write one letter or send a fax

A good Barrister in Commercial law can earn £100,000-£200,000 a year easily. Maybe City are hiring 5 good Barristers and 45 first- and second-year law students and newly-qualified solicitors.....

Bristol put forward Ashton Gate as neutral venue for Premiership rugby restart
The stadium would need rooms for multiple teams to change and prepare, have a surface able to stand up to a number of matches in one day and have training facilities nearby.
Hmmm...where have I heard that idea before?

What if it was 30 million a year on 50 lawyers?

Surely it would be cheaper just to pay UEFA off.

Well it looks like the Saudi PIF is going to pass the “fit and proper” test, despite more concerns about BeOutTV than extrajudicial assassinations.

So is it going to mess with your TV watching Scamp? I’m assuming BeOut will get yanked once it’s hurting their own pockets.

And we are already getting link to every possible wantaway big money marquee signing. Makes something new to read I guess.

BeOut is just the spat with Qatar. I still get BeIn Sports so when football comes back I can watch on that anyway.
The Saudi's will find a way, I guarantee you, to have whatever sports programming they want and own a Premier League football club....but agree BeOut could disappear - means losing face and letting the Qatari's 'win' though. So maybe not. Who knows?
We're tendering with PIF left, right and centre, the latest is for dozens of hotels in Riyadh. They've got more money than Mike Ashley could spend on lager in 1,000 lifetimes.
They're a nation of not giving a fudge. Hugely proud and bizarrely shameless.
It may not go down too well in the Kingdom though, they've just tripled VAT to 15% and cancelled the government employee monthly handout of SAR1,000 (220 quid-ish) which was given to help rising cost of living.
They're spending heavily fighting Iran in Yemen, which they thought would be done by now. The IPO of Aramco generated huge cash but in a population of about 30mill, 26.5million are royals on handouts, the world eyes them nervously whilst governments rub their hands together to flog them fighter planes and weapons, they're nervous they're a one-trick-oil-pony and MBS has the 2030 vision to change the country into a tourist destination - it's certainly got the potential, the history in the country is just breathtaking - but they need the oil price higher than about $40 I think to make money and restock the coffers.
Spending cash on a football club seems luxurious but it's about saving face.
MBS is so popular that the vast majority of the Saudi's wouldn't criticise him for it, but praise the fact they own a(nother) traditional establishment in the UK. PIF is about investing, across all platforms, so I'd see it as commercial rather than a fun thing to throw cash at. They'll want a return.

I am just going to have a moan about US Bundersliga access.

So, as soon as the re-start was announced I wanted to know how to access the games.
Who to follow was an early question too,
St Pauli - for politics
Dortmund - my kid has followed them for a few years now (not sure how that started, but there is a bit of affinity anyway for a Liverpool fan like me)
Koln - I have only been to two German games, Koln hosting Bayern Munich, and Blau Weiss Berlin hosting Ulm. And Blau Weiss went Kaput in 1992.
So Dortmund for Division 1 and St Pauli for Division 2. Seemed a way to avoid conflict.

Fox Sports 1 has some games and comes with Sling Blue. Usually Bayern, Dortmund, the big games. I have that anyway. To get more games Fox has Fox Soccer Match Pass, a bunch more of Bundersliga 1 and Budersliga 2. games So this Match Pass is like a combination of NBCSN Gold which for $50 or $60 a year gives you the also ran games from the EPL, combined with ESPN+, which for $5 a month gives you a bunch of Championship games.

But this Fox pass, costs $20 a month. The Bundersliga 2 games have no commentary (fair enough, but reflect that in the price charged). The option for "Live" or "Start from beginning" always goes to the beginning, so there is no option of splitting replay games up between work, dinner, family, or whatever.

Fox seem to have given up the ghost on this as they lost the rights to the Bundersliga for next season anyway, and the Bundersliga was the last major soccer league this pass has. It is closing down as a service at the end of June, days after the German season is due to end. Not really surprised it failed given the service to cost ratio. I am watching the Berlin derby in an hour then will cancel the trial. I was a very willing subscriber (at least in the short term) but it just isnt worth it.

We seem to have got a bit lucky with this in Canada.

A typical (general) TV package has included all the Canadian SportsNet channels except one (SportsNetWorld) that needed to be subscribed to separately.
For several years the main EPL games were mostly on the packaged channels. Very occasionally there would be one on SNW and half the time that match was available in Canada via NBC's main (non-sport) channel. So there was really no need to fork out the extra $20 a month for that one channel.

When the rights to the EPL in Canada went to DAZN, SportsNet had the rights to the Bundesliga but mostly only broadcast them on the pay channel SNW. The occasional one was shown on one of the others but not often.

I've been meaning to cancel the package that includes these Canadian SportsNet channels but that's on hold now because they are showing German games on those channels whereas I'd have expected them to encourage subscribers by continuing to have them mostly on SNW. Or at least have the 'big' games on SNW.

As you say, Dortmund and Bayern are the main appeal and for both weekends so far their games have been 'free' rather than on the subscription channel.

It's almost as if they are being 'nice' about it.
I might wonder if they were trying to encourage people to watch the games and then if they hook enough people, put them on SNW and hope people subscribe. But by then we'll (hopefully) be back on DAZN watching the EPL games so that seems unlikely.

I remember having a Fox Sports channel that had a football show repeated every hour about 17 times a day
