Default USB - salvageable?

Dog chewed up wife's USB

Can it be salvaged? The red light is blinking when we plug it in. I thought that would be a good sign? Is there any way to get the data of it or fix it somehow?

It's full of wife's important lab work for her PhD Any help please?

These can be salvaged but its not a DIY task.
Due to the apparent importance of the contents, I advise that you contact a data recovery specialist who should be able to remove the memory card and fit into a similar new housing.
Check out YTube under 'How to recover data from dead flash drive' or similar heading. If you don't have a specialist close at hand it's worth mailing the flash drive to a competent data retrieval company.
Given the importance of the contents I'm surprised that these are not on your main computer with the USB stick acting only as a convenience backup.

Oh, and get your dog to the vets quickly, for an anti-virus jab…….

Yeah I have no idea why the wife didn't back them up tbh...

I've just realised the dog broke what I believe is the NAND memory section, which is where data is stored I believe? I found 2 pieces to this, but can't find the final missing piece of the jig saw, per se.

Can it still be recovered?

If the memory chip is sectioned, I would think not. However always wise to ask a specialist - perhaps with a photo of exactly what parts you've been able to recover.

We just had a very, very lucky break. Turns out the lab computers back up anything saved, whether that's to the lab computer or an external drive. All she has lost is 4 days of cell treatment, which she can just redo. Phew.

Pup was lucky, she's out the dog house now. I'm lucky, means I can safely speak now But all in all, a hard lesson there for the wife.

Cheers, anyhow!
