Default A recent firefox update

One of the latest firefox updates has put in something new just below the address bar.

I've clicked on 'manage bookmarks' and it doesn't get rid of it. It stays there whether or not one has bookmarks open. It never used to be there and I thought maybe it would disappear on its own but it hasn't. I've tried using customise but it doesn't respond to any clicking, attempted dragging or the usual stuff.

It's not a big deal but I'd still rather not see it. Any suggestions? Except for "use linux" of course.

Strange. I'm on the latest Firefox (84.0 on a Mac) updated yesterday, and not seeing that.
Note that I already have the bookmarks toolbar visible. This is initially selected by going to View/Toolbars and then checking 'Bookmarks Toolbar'.

Alt + V -> Toolbars and uncheck Bookmarks Toolbar. Not sure why it suddenly showed up for you. Personally I use it a couple of links so I have it show.

I have the bookmarks always there, but that suggestion did the trick nicely. Thanks.

That shortcut works perfectly. I don't keep the Bookmarks toolbar showing because I use a 13" laptop and it takes up some space, but it's easy to toggle on and off as required.
