Default Help on drive partition

HP Spectre laptop with Windows 10.
I have my data on a partition of the internal hard disc. All of a sudden, after months of normal operation, this partition does not appear in Explorer. Yet if I go into disc management - it does show up. I changed the drive letter and it still shows with the changed letter - but not, again, in Explorer.
I can right click on the partition in disc management, select "open", and it opens, but still in Explorer it doesn't show up.
There are thousands of similar posts on the net but mainly relating to external, USB HDs. Virtually all the "fixes" seem to merely change the drive letter or similar.
Any ideas?
