BBC Blocking all VPNs

Strange, I'm using the same VPN but get this message:

What if you are in the UK?
There are several reasons why iPlayer thinks you're outside the UK; the most common are either:- Your IP address, which is the address websites use to determine where in the world you are, not being registered in the UK
- You are using a VPN (Virtual Private Network), proxy, or similar service which masks your IP address
But you can do something about it.
This page will explain what can be done and will also list other possible reasons why this could be happening and what to do.- Using a VPN or proxy? Try disabling it.
- Maybe your IP address isn't registered in the UK

Some months ago it needed a few attempts to get BBC although ITV was fine. Refreshing firefox or disconnecting and reconnecting until it worked (rather like redialling the phone when it has an engaged tone) was what I did. Usually three or four goes but once around ten.
Lately though, it's worked first time every time.
Another option is Opera browser that has an add-on that allows you to get add-ons from Chrome and one of those is the free Beebs add-on. Just tested and that's working too.

I let my VPN (PureVPN) lapse because while I could stream via iPlayer, it would no longer let me download. I often used to download shows to my iPad and share them with friends/family. PureVPN told me that they didn't have a workaround. Anybody having success with downloading BBC shows?

BBC iPlayer still seems to work fine on the Windows computers, iPhone and iPad through the configured router but stopped working on the Roku a few weeks ago. The Roku is by far the most convenient device to use - anyone know of a fix for the Roku?

How do you get iplayer on Roku? I have one and use Netflix, Youtube etc but all the other channels are pretty gash. Does it have a search function? If so I've never seen one.

I'm with you. I use Roku (here in Canada) and haven't found Iplayer. A slew of religious channels and channels I have little interest in. I use it for Netflix, YouTube, Al Jazeera, Reuters news, Ted Talks, Sky News (very limited news) and that is it.

I read some reviews for a smart TV with Roku the other day. A common complaint was that the remote has no numbers and you can only go up-down/back-forwards rather than input a particular number.
Is that a nuisance?

Roku player includes Al Jazeera news, Sky news (truncated version it seems), Reuters news, YouTube, Ted Talks as free channels which works well for me. Recently, Amazon Prime channel got added which we have free for another few weeks.

Let's say the 3.00 Saturday match finishes on 105 (it used to be 300+ with the previous provider) and the 5.30 match is on NBC, which is 9 for me. Imagine having to click down between 100 and 300 times, because you can't input a number.

But I know with Netflix you don't need numbers. I suppose with other things that Roku enables, you don't need as many numbers as on your typical TV service, so it's less of a nuisance.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know how to view the new Karl Pilkington show?
