I think you're being rather optimistic about the collars and leads. Every year the vet parks his car on the village green opposite my house and I've never seen any dog arrive on a lead. If a dog creates a problem the dog catcher who comes with the vet catches the dog with the catch pole ... if that's what you call it ... and its up to the owner to hold the dog's head whilst the vet gives it the vacc. I've stopped taking my two to the local vets because of the number of unleashed and sometimes aggressive dogs you meet. I much prefer to take them to a vet in Miskolc where at least owners know what a lead is meant for

[QUOTE=fidobsa;11407285]No, it is a field mouse. I had the same confusion when I first saw one in my septic tank excavations:

That's the one. Thank you

I just went along for a nose and there were only about a dozen dogs and owners but the dogs did all seem to be on leads and under control. They were keeping them well spaced out and there was plenty of barking. It looked like they were using the part of the mayors office / post office building normally used for visiting doctors and dentists. It could be that the vet here insists on them being on a lead.

It was the same when we lived in Sirok. All the dogs were on leads and under control when the rabies jabs were given

Hello there, I'm new to the forum but have actually been in and out of Hungary for years. Finally settled on a great spot just outside Gyor in several kilometres of forest nature reserve and would like to let animal lovers know that we've got a fantastic riding centre near us, which means I have somewhere safe to leave a horse if I go away for a while so I think horse rescue is next on my agenda and that it's available for a horse or two if anyone has them and needs to go to the UK for longer periods. Also I wanted to mention to anyone here, that I have about 15 huge kennels about 20sqms each and a totally fenced garden, so if anyone needs to have a dog or cat looked after while they go away we could arrange that, the cats could live in the house with us and so could the dog if it was alone at the time , if not then kennel at night and garden and house in the day !
Hope that's a help for folks in the future. We'll be there from the first week of July
