Hi there,

I've been a member of this forum for quite a while, from both hemispheres and am now a fully-fledged Aussie citizen having done the visa thing the hard way.

I now work in International Human Resources and we are desperately trying to find any qualified & experienced Oil & Gas Engineers out there (all disciplines) who want to come to Melbourne.

I work for an engineering company (PSN) www.psnworld.com.au and we specialise in recruiting people from overseas. For the right candidates we can provide 457 visas and relocation packages for you and your family.

Yeah, I know it's booming but Perth's not for everyone! I couldn't personally live there, even with the big bucks and eternal sunshine (oops, I'm selling the opposition aren't I??) too far away from everything and way too small for me.

Seriously, Melbourne is a fab place to live so I thought I'd just let you all know...!

Out of interest, any reason why your company doesn't want to sponsor for permanent visas?

We do offer ENS for PR but only after employees have worked for us for a while. From experience, assisting with PR before we really know the candidate had led to a lot of people happily taking a free PR visa from the company and then deciding to work for someone else.

It's also easier to apply through DIMA if the applicant has worked in Australia for 2 years, and for us for 1.

The url that you have typed is not valid, I'm afraid - you may have a slight case of digital dyslexia there!!

I have attached a speculative CV - I am a mechatronics engineer (which in the oil & gas industry parlance they would call a Controls & Instrumentation engineer) with some experience in Oil & Gas, but the majority of my career has been spent in aerospace/automotive & defence industries. I would be very interested in making a mid-career change to the O & G industry, and indeed have made some steps in that direction as I currently train oil & gas operators & maintenance engineers control & instrumentation.

I have a Brit passport & am UK qualified. Would be interested to know your thoughts on how easy it would be to relocate to Oz.

Dear Emma,

I am replying to your request for Engineers, I am a Cost Estimator and Production Planning Engineer for a world leading automotive filtration company.

I have worked for them for 18 years and am also a time served Milling Machinist obtained through the Ministry of Defence. I currently have a permanent visa application being processed but would like to get to Australia sooner on the 457 visa.

Can you tell me if your Company would be interested in my experience?

I agree, not everyone is looking to go to Perth. My husband is a mining engineer and we'd rather go to New South Wales, even if it means making less money. Believe me, money isn't everything.

Any employment relationship is fundamentally based on trust. If you are saying - basically - that you're not prepared to trust a new employee, then why on earth should that person be expected to reciprocate?

Uprooting a family from overseas and coming to Australia without security of a permanent visa is a very serious step. There are cases, for example, where people arrive on a temporary visa and then a family member gets sick => often this means serious visa problems to deal with on top of everything else. And who pays all the extra health/education costs?

If you are suggesting that people obtain ENS visas and then never take up the sponsoring employment, then DIAC would take a dim view of that if reported to them.

Not necessary if applicant has an engineering skill assessment plus 3 years experience. Or if applying under RSMS.

Wish i was an engineer,as would have took up this chance,i work for the company you mention now and have in the past,they also used to be called under different names also.
I plan on going to brisbane,would be great to work for the same company in oz,but i beleive you need to be some kind of engineer or something to do that,im just a pipefitter but with a few years behind me in this line of work both oil rigs and oil and gas sites.
I am about to start the tra part and then visa,so get there one day i hope.would prefer if sooner.

Originally I was looking at Adelaide but would consider anywhere in Oz. Currently I am working as a gas Fitter in the UK with 4 years experience in September. I also do plumbing and would do both licences when I get over there. Is this any good to you??

I'm instrument designer/engineer with 8 years experience with Jacobs Engineering and Project Management in Ireland.
