Jimbocho vs. Akasaka mitsuke - where to live?
 

I realise that this isn't the busiest forum on these boards but I have one of those 'nice to have' problems I guess. I've just moved to Tokyo with my employer and would be grateful for your views/help about where I should live for the next 3-4 years.

I'm going to be working in Hanzomon and have been offered two flats - one in Jimbocho and one in Akasaka mitsuke. As the company is paying(!), both are very nice and around 100sqm.

However, I have to tell them which I want to live in on Monday and while I've gone to Akasaka once or twice don't really know the area and don't know Jimbocho at all. (though you can guess what I will be doing this weekend!).

One choice is in Jimbocho at the La Tour Chiyoda and the other is at the Prudential Tower in Akasaka

I have seen both apartments and so far have been told that:

Akasaka

- more shops
- slightly closer to the office
- both come with free internet but this comes with free cable as well.
- smaller windows - not sure about the view
- smallish/slightly cramped kitchen

Jinbocho

- a quieter area - bookshops and university's or so I am told
- fewer food shops
- nicer looking apartment (bigger windows), kitchen is bigger but the living room is smaller
- views of tokyo dome/the skytree tower and shibuya (i think)

If its any help, I'm in my 30's, single and don't speak any Japanese yet but will be taking some lessons. Having said that I've found it much easier than I expected to get around Tokyo so far..

Also, i won't be driving in Japan, so need to ensure there are enough places to buy food etc. locally (or have it delivered?)

Grateful for any thoughts/ideas..

Just saw your post. I realize that I'm a bit late. Have you made your decision? I work in Akasaka a few times a week. Nice area. Wish I could live around there. I live in Kichijoji. I've only been in Tokyo for four months, but if you need any help with anything, reply or send me a message.
