Re: weather
Not had a drop of rain here since 19th. September. Got to be driest October on record - usual average October 130 mm. This year - zero. November also started bright and sunny, but now clouding up and looking threatenting, and very windy.

I think your brain forgets the rainy days! Unless of course you live no where near here

Re: weather
Hi Beasty - in Siracusa (about 100 km south of Acireale) we had absolutely no rain at all from 16th June until 25th September so the 5-6 days with a thunderstorm that we have had since then have been very welcome. The best weather here is now as the summer is monotonous

Re: weather
Probably a good idea to park the car in a place where it won't be swept away too

Re: weather
Yup ! the car park that I use daily was packed out by 8.10 by people doing that including one man who carefully parked right next to the exit partially blocking it .. .once bitten twice shy here

I am so glad we live half way up a mountain. My only fear is the threat of damage by passing arks!

Re: weather
Still raining here and yesterday my neighbour and her daughter were sreaming and screeching and calling my name. Alex and I went to see what the fuss was about and they said "Lorna there's a 'topo'. "Silly fools" I thought, just for a mouse. Dear God it was a great big bloody rat coming towards my steps. I got a scare and told Alex to run for a sweeping brush or something but the rat started moving towards us very quickly so we ran inside slamming our door and the neighbours ran off and slammed their door too.
I didn't know what to do so I rang the comune to ask them who deals with this kind of stuff just in case there is a ratty community around here. It was 2.30pm so of course their offices were closed. I know rats don't normally come out in daylight without a reason so I rang the local carabinieri. They gave me the number for the fire station in town. Haven't seen Ratty since but I haven't been able to open my door since either without having a good look through the spyhole first in case Ratty is sitting on my steps. Wonder if his home got flooded?

Well till the rat is in the kitchen there is not so much to worry. Then one can also open a bottle of Red , Red wine....

I told the pompiere that it was the carabinieri who gave me their number and explained about the rat coming inside the steps. He said,
"was it big Signora?" and I said that it was bloody huge, not a mouse but a proper rat and to make sure there was no confusion I also used the dialect 'pantegan'.
Then he told me that I'd have to ring 115 and somebody there would dispatch him and his mates out if they thought it necessary.
"But that's the emergency number and this isn't an emergency is it?"
That's the way it works Signora.
"Well would you normally come out for something like this?"
No
So I didn't bother ringing. I might be mad and crazy sometimes but not enough to ring the emergency services for a rat. Think I'll mention it to the ASL though ...... and it was bloody huge with a long horrible tail.
