InternationalBfk: If I were you I would join Couchsurfing (online) as there are tons of Romans wanting to meet for coffee and socialising. Its not all about staying on couches. There are also local group meets and as well as you organising individual ones.

Last week's sneaky escape was brilliant - we didn't have a ponte either, but I had to get a UK top up for my soul otherwise I'd have gone mad! Should be able to make it to Easter now, especially as I have a friend coming to stay early April
(And he's promised to bring me a bottle of Morgan's Spiced huzzah!)

I only realised that after I joined. There are local group meets and people who currently are not offering couches but 'meet for a coffee' which often expands once you have met.

Also, just noticed something else that might well suit you. If you are on Facebook there is a group on there called 'Alternative Weekly Couch Surfing meeting' and they are meeting up this very week in Rome. (I guess its a splinter group...?).
