UK income with Residency in Italy
Hi Everyone,
My wife and I are applying for residency with the commune this week, and will then do the WA application for EU residency as well. This way we can spend more than 90 days (in the rolling 180) at out house in Sicily Now, we will still be living and working in the UK. Our jobs/contracts are UK based, and we pay tax in the UK and wont have any income in Italy. We are taxed at 40% in UK and I would believe we need to file taxes in Italy for 'global income'.
Does anyone know what that 'global income' tax is based on, pre-UK Tax total or post-UK tax?
Any advise and insight is very much welcome.
Thank you.

As far as I’ve been able to ascertain it would work like this; UK calculate tax, Italy calculate both on gross earnings, then you pay the difference if there is any. The DTA is here. Assume you know the Italy rates, but just in case.
0 15,000 23%
15,001 28,000 27%
28,001 55,000 38%
55,001 75,000 41%
75,001 43%
You could perhaps look into elective residency if not working in Italy?

If you become resident in Italy your home here will become your primary residence and you will be able to ask to pay utilities as a resident but your property in the UK will need to be included in your Italian tax returns and you will be taxed on it .

Again you need to get proper financial advice from an accountant who knows both systems especially if by any chance you start working remotely in Italy If you apply for residency it can involve a visit from the polizia locale to confirm that you are indeed there for a lot of the time ......
Also what about health care coverage
Also what about health care coverage

Re Health coverage; we got that sorted with the SSN by 'buying' into it for the rest of this year and will pay again on jan 1, 2021 for 2021. Our lawyer here in Sicily arranged it with the SSN administration.
Re Taxes; we will definitely get financial advice as soon as the commune accepts us we will be meeting with an accountant here in Sicily....i will also get advise in the UK since it seems we have to apply for 'dual residency' under the DTA, if i am reading it correctly....but one step at a time.
Thanks
