Hmmm, possibly she could act as trustee and the kids would be the beneficiaries? I'm sure when I was a kid my bank account was linked to my Grandma in some way - I would have thought most bank accounts set up for children would work as trusts as they are too young to be responsible for the money. Your mum is best off talking to the bank she wants to set it up with, just tell them it's for the kids, don't tell them where they live unless they ask!

Giodafa - what about Children's Bonus Bonds rather than a traditional bank account?

You're welcome.

It sounds like a good alternative given the fact that anybody can open/buy them for kids. They are safe and after 5 years there is a bonus.

I might think about doing it myself if only I had a UK bank account ....... but I have parents and sisters who do.
