UK Bank Acccounts

Re: UK Bank Acccounts
There are a few interesting posts on the French forum about this subject. It seems to stir up more interest than Brexit.

I have just got a letter from Nationwide saying they are closing my UK account. Did anyone find a solution?

The GOV.UK daily briefing of 17 Nov (Living in Italy) covers cross-border banking and states that few will see a change but that it is a matter between bank and country of residence; there is a link to further information. I am afraid I can't work out how to attach the link (but will work on it.)

P.S. If you are unfamiliar with the briefing, the site is https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-europe
then you choose the Italy page.
then you choose the Italy page.

Just went to check on Nationwide and got this message "The Financial Services Register will be unavailable over the weekend of from 6pm 20 November to 8am 23 November. This is to allow us to update the Financial Services Register with Directory Persons data for dual-regulated firms."

Do you mean HSBC Italia, HSBC international or HSBC UK? Do you have a link to the account?
I am looking at Transferwise. They give you a debit card and the fees are reasonable.

Friend of ours just transferred from Barclays to HSBC UK. They are on here, but I don't know whether they will want to share their experience. If they do, then I am sure they will.

I really don't think it's a good idea to be saying where you bank folks. We in the past used Transferwise (no longer) and they were very good, but we also used CurrencyFair (again don't use now), but not too sure they do a card these days (never used to). A year or two back someone mentioned Fineco and when I looked they seemed a good option, might be worth a look. We casually keep an eye to these things in the vague hope we will be back in Italy renting once Brexit and Covid are out of the way...

I cannot say I am attracted to HSBC. I had an account with them 40 years ago and the service was bad then.

I see the BBC here has caught up with the story...
I suspect the banks dont want these accounts because they are not profitable and Brexit gives them an excuse to ditch them.

I would have a look at Fineco here (you may need the Italy site).

HSBC will probably still be ok and Santander and Deutsche Bank as they all have a presence in Italy and the UK and have the necessary conditions in place.
