Trip to Abruzzo in Oct

Hi all,

The hubby and I have finally decide italy is somewhere we might like to live, we've been to a couple of places (only on holiday) and after doing a little research though Abruzzo might be an area to go and take a look at.

We've got 5 days in October staying in Pescara, but intend to visit a few towns and get a feel of the place if we can in such a short time. So any help/tips / advice would be greatly welcome.

Cheers
Jeni x

Hi Jennifer, and welcome,,

The first thing is to beware of any estate agent that tries to "sell" Abruzzo because if you buy a house there you'll be able to get to the mountains in twenty minutes or whatever and if you drive the other way you'll get to the sea in half an hour. It's the same in most of Italy!

There's a great internet forum all about Abruzzo. Why not ask there? They're almost all English-speakers, so it doesn't matter if you don't speak Italian yet - All in Abruzzo Forum • Index page ;)

hi Jennifer

we have lived in abruzzo for ten or so years and are verry happy and we are allso verry happy to pass on tips so people dont fall into the traps we did when we moved here to retire and open a B&B

we are not estate agents but know which one to trust or not

when you say Pescara do you meen the town or the region

as we live in the chieti region , not cheiti town and the chieti region is the bigest and most varian region of abruzzo

as for the forum menshion by sancho last time i looked it was ofereing cheap viagra and rusian girl freinds it seems to get hacked a lot

any way feel fre to ask me any questions about the area i live in

and pehaps when your over you can pop in for a cup of tea and a chat

as for mountane and sea ours is the adreatic and the majjela which is a nature resrve and natinal park skl resort one of the few places you can ski and se the sea

Thanks Sancho, we'll take a look at that forum. We chose Abruzzo to start as you state close to sea & mountains but also with its proximity to Rome for the connecting flights to north of England.

It does look really nice though and from what we've read just up our street.

Hi linseed, we are booked into Pescara town to stay, but have a car for the duration. So I'm sure we'll take you up on your offer and pop in for a coffee and a chat. Chieti does have some properties that are on our radar but this is purely an area scoping trip.

We are looking to retire, don't really want a place in a town. We're still young so want something to keep us occupied so been looking at properties with vines n fruit trees etc.

It's all very new at the moment but you've got to start somewhere...

Thanks
Jeni

We're staying at the parc hotel villa immacolata. The shangi hi sounds like a place we'll give a go, like a good Singapore vermicelli.

if you'd like to explore the northern part of abruzzo to see the difference and appreciate the glorious scenery pm me and we can arrange a meet up. I retired here 7 years ago and renovated an old farmhouse (not far from teramo) so perhaps can give you some tips/information. best wishes, sheila

Thanks for the tip, I do like open spaces with views. I'm sure there'll be no shortage of that...

What is the rental market like? It's something were considering short term. To see if we like an area before buying?

How verry wise to rent before you buy , and the way to go is ask the locals , and not go though agents . there are some siley prices stil beeing asked

but there are so many empty propertys that are beeing taxed , the locals are glad to rent them out infact they will take your arm of . and they are renting out verry cheap at the moment

and thse are verry nice propertys in good locations not miles down stone roads miles from any were

and not in the landslide areas of abruzzo so take your time and study the state of the roads . if you see fresh stone and no tarmack beware . its slipped and it will slip again
