Default Travel Uk-Italy for s.o who's had Covid

I wonder if someone here can help.

I'm looking for information for a friend of mine who hopes to fly from the UK to Italy. It'll be at the end of June or in July. The reason is that his mother will shortly be going into hospital for an operation - so it's fairly urgent. They're all Italian, but he and his family now live in London. He and his wife both had Covid early this year, and recovered after a few days.

He's trying to find out things like

- Is he in fact allowed to travel to Italy ? It's on the UK "amber list" at the moment, I think, but that may allow for cases like this. It's not leisure/holiday trap.

- What documents / tests will he need to leave the UK and to enter Italy, and how can he get them ? I'm told UKL GP surgeries are hard to contact nowadays.

- Anything else he should know...

At the moment it's possible but of course this might change:

from the UK point of view (leaving the UK & returning to the UK) I'd suggest your friend reads the advice from the UK govt website - here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-a...el-coronavirus - but I believe there's no reason why he can't travel to Italy. It's true the advice is not to travel, but that doesn't mean he can't. But the real problem is when you return to the UK because you need to do 10 days quarantine and three covid tests.

entering Italy? no problem at the moment, you just need one negative test - but it might change - here's an article about this today https://www.thelocal.it/20210614/tra...ssary-says-pm/

There's no legal obstacle so far as the UK is concerned to travelling to Italy. There's just Government advice; and people can make up their own minds about how much weight to give it.
So far as Italy is concerned, all that's needed at present is, as C.2s says, a negative Covid test. This doesn't have to be an expensive PCR test: it can be an antigen test. But the test must be carried out withiin 48 hours before arriving in Italy. These tests can be carried out not just in private clinics but also in some chemists. We had ours done in a chemists and it cost about £45 a pop. Still a rip-off, as the tests themselves cost only pennies. But you're paying for a doctor's name on the certificate. I suggest your friend just googles "private antigen test near me" to see what's available locally.
I think that incoming travellers to Italy are also supposed to fill in an online Passenger Locator Form ( on https://app.euplf.eu/#/ ) . We did, but I rather doubt that the authorities did anything with it. Ditto with the online form we were supposed to submit to inform our local ASL of our arrival. All these requirements are set out at https://www.salute.gov.it/portale/nu...u=vuoto&tab=10.

Comprehensive post Stanley. Excellent.

I travelled to Bergamo just over three weeks ago. Airport security were checking all non Italian passport holders that they had completed the Passenger Locator Form.

Thank you everyone. I've passed everything on to Gianluca, who's very grateful too. He's coming on July 5th, flying with BA to Bologna.

i got covid in Italy in October, got caught for 7 months from November in uk by UK lock down, got 2 jabs courtesy of NHS and returned to Italy a week ago, i got a fit to fly test in UK (be careful lots of people were bumped off flight as results of PCR came too late).i did PLF which they collected (cant check in till you transmit pcr results and PLF). Had to call a number to say I’d arrived.in Italy

to go back to UK you need fit to fly test and PLF then 10 days quarantine with a 2 and 8 day test.

For 2 Inc. air fares it will cost me around £1,400 the only reason i came back was to sell my house, i wouldn’t bother otherwise

I am so angry with Johnson and his buddies. This is completely down to him.
