Teaching in Italy
Hi guys.
Does anyone have any info regarding teaching in international schools in Italy? Any info would be greatly appreciated, in particular, pay, typical day, work life balance etc. Many thanks Rob |
Re: Teaching in Italy
I don't work in an international school but i do work privately. As far as i am aware an international school would probably work from 8am until 1pm following the same hours as Italian schools, some schools have similar hours to UK schools with children eating lunch at school and finishing later at 3 or 4pm. On the other hand you have private schools which deal with private lessons for students, children and adults alike, these tend to offer lessons to adults in the mornings or corporate groups, even providing lessons at universities etc. The afternoons are usually for children for after school lessons, some adults having lessons after 7pm or laterwhen they finish work.
Pay in private schools in Puglia, where I am is 15 euros an hour. In terms of work life balance perhaps either choose a school with full morning lessons or just work after 3pm offering private lessons. This is simply based on my experience and so I can't speak for the rest of Italy but I hope it helps. |
Re: Teaching in Italy
I have taught in 2 such schools in the last 5 years. Generally they are looking for QTS teachers with experience. The above info is not accurate. Generally hours would be 8 or 8.30 to 4.30, term time only, occasionally later for meetings & if taking on After School Clubs are in your contract. Average wages are €1500 net monthly. Usually the schools cater for 2 to 18 year olds, though some are only Early Years & Primary. In the very big cities about 50% of the kids are expats, in slightly smaller cities the kids are 95% Italian, but all teaching is done in English apart from Italian lessons.Generally the schools are in or just outside Northern cities, eg. Milan, Monza, Treviso, Brescia, Bergamo, Bologna, Modena, Turin, Verona,Genova, Trieste, but also Siena, Rome, Naples, Palermo. Best place to look is TES website, IBO website or International School of Europe website. Happy hunting !
