Default Spanish-registered car being taken to Italy

Hello all,
We have bought a Spanish-registered LHD car here in UK which we plan to take over to Italy as soon as we sell our house here in UK. We will become resident in Italy and will, of course, register the vehicle there.
I have read the threads about the cost of registering cars in Italy (seems to be about 700-ish euros), but does that price apply to cars from any EU country?
Is there any benefit/problem with registering it in UK first and then again in Italy?

All suggestions/help/comments greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

You will have to pay to have it transferred to UK plates, with all that entials, changing headlights, rear lights, fog lights, and then have to do it all again in Italy. If you haven't owned it more than 6 months (I believe) you may have to pay import duty when you take it to Italy.

We paid just over 600 Euros to register our car from German plates to Italian. That was 3 years ago. It was a pretty simple process, by Italian standards. You can either do it direct or do what we did which was to go to an automobile agency which specialises in that kind of thing.

I wouldn't think you would have to pay import duties if it is within the Euro zone!

It is a SPANISH CAR and LHD not RHD... so simply a conformation issue... just a tax issue... if it is your car than I think no tax is payable. As it is second hand.... and you are becoming resident straight away.

If you read my post properly then you will see that I was answering the question about getting the car registered in the UK and then moving it to Italy, and my comments about the lights do apply, if it's reregistered in the UK then the lights etc will have to be changed, and then when reregistered in Italy they will all have to be changed back again, which was the point I was making.
