Default Self-loaded container house removal to Italy

I've seen the thread
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=711456, It contains some great details, but would like a bit more information please!
Most of the posts are from people moving inter-continentally. We are moving from UK to Italy. We have had some quotes from removals companies, which have been a bit steep - around £6,500 in one case.
So we contacted Containers Direct UK who quoted us £2,900 which includes the supply of our own 20’ container, all UK transport, UK customs clearance and shipping to quayside Ancona. First of all, does anyone know of another company who offers this service, so that we can get a comparative quote? We have searched the net and cannot seem to find anything.
Secondly, we will need to put the container into storage for maybe up to 12 months. We will be staying with friends in Tuscany until we find our dream home. Is it worth putting our stuff into storage in UK and then shipping it to Italy when we are ready, or should we ship it to Italy straight away and store it there?
Thanks in advance!

Hi there, I would think that leaving your stuff in storage in UK may be an easier solution as there are plenty of facilities there, probably more than in Italy.
You might decide to weed out some of your goods after you have been in Italy for a year, avoiding transporting items unnecessarily.

I'd keep it in the UK-do not move anything here until you have a house, which might take some time.
