pescara area...
 

hi
we are looking to move to italy at the end of this year early next year and have narrowed down to the ideal area of pescara i was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on what its like there, especilly Spoltore and torrevecchia teatine.... or if anyone could recommend an area..... we want to be able to get to the beach and airports within 30-40mins..

don't know about the particular places you mention but any of the villages in land from pescara either north or south are lovely. if you choose approximately 30 mins inland you will be nearer the mountains and have wonderful views either the majella or the gran sasso. the areas north or south of pescara are very different and it makes sense to rent for a while to get a feel for which suits you best. whatever you choose you won't be disappointed with abruzzo it's absolutely beautiful.

Hi Kelly, I have a house in the mountains, only 35 mins or so from the sea (and Pescara). Haven't made a permanent move yet but going to spend this summer there. Small villages feel like stepping back in time and might get a bit claustrophobic if you live there permanently. Saying that I absolutely love the area and there is a lot to do if you are an outdoorsy type.
Oh, and another thing: if you are planning to grow fruit trees don't go any further than 20mins from the sea. I was dreaming of having an orange, apple tree and cherries but, alas, can only have grapes, figs and apricots. Which are fantastic by the way.

Nice cherries here....and inland 45 mins but up 620m...also pears, apples, apricots, peaches etc etc

Ahhh, Angeli, you make me green with envy. I am only 520m up in the mountains and no cherries! Now I know properties are more expensive in Le Marche!

Ahhh Asik, dont know why it works here but seems to. ....see 'cherry'literally'picker' doing its stuff outside Punto - Supermacato, and man picking the cherries...!in May!! birds in garden get most of mine but I do get enough from low branches, 2 sorts, one much earlier than the other..Trying more pears and apples this year but only sticks now...
You are lucky to be so closes to sea...miss that....:thumbup:

we live in pretoro which is 600 mts obove sea level and have lots of cherrys and peachs ect this thread has wandered a bit a good tip is to google at randem the villages using a map of abruzzo and go on the village web sites this will tell you a lot about the places WE are twenty mins from the beach at francaviller and 35 mins pescara airport 10 mins fom a ski resort , and 10mins from a verrt good hospital this we thought to be important as we have semi retird googel pretoro and you whill se why we moved here to open a bb we are very happy here

i really appreiate all your feedback and thank you asik, for the gardening advice... my boyfriend is a landscape gardener over here with his own business and it was his idea to think about the move as the weather is so much better for growning... so thanks for that info!! :)...ive been doing google street view which is very helpfull but we really need to work out if it would be a wise move, as i would be going out there unemployed and with no job prospects as yet. Pretoro looks amazing, linseed oil I can see why you choose there, I would love to one day love to own a b&b as i've worked in hotels and studied hospitality and really enjoyed but that would be a long way off. So it although its sounds idyllic but its also a very scary thought. I will relay all this info to my other half later today and we will have to have a little look tonight...thanks everyone!!

Ciao everyone,

Well, I have been living in Sicily for about two years and now I feel ready for a change. I have read a little about Abruzzo/Pescara area and it sounds lovely, I plan on visiting there sometime soon.
I was wondering what kind of jobs there are for English people - I currently teach English to private families in Palermo, there seems to be plenty of work for that here, how about in Pescara, does anyone know? Or what kind of jobs are available for English people in that area? Is work difficult to find?
I'm actually an artist/painting and graphic designer and have held a big exhibition in Palermo with the President of the state, so I was also wondering if Pescara/Abruzzo has a big art culture or is it up and coming?
