Permanent Residency Certificate

Hello all! Me and my partner recently applied to the comune for an EU permanent residency certificate (permesso di soggiorno UE per soggiornati di lungo periodo) as we have been here five years and are covered by the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement. I've just had an email from them to say our certificates are ready for collection - hurrah!

However, I am now wondering what, if any, the next step is? Is there any card that we should be applying for? I've seen some mention of making appointments with the questura but I cannot find a definitive answer.as to why/how/when.

Hopefully someone who has previously been through the process will be able to help me - thank you in advance!

You should get your new tessera sanitaria. If it doesn't arrive go and ask at the ASL.

Thanks philat98, I'll be popping along to the ASL before Christmas to start the process of getting our permanent tessera sanitaria cards (will be taking multiple documents to make sure the guy at the counter understands our rights!)

I was thinking more about a permanent residency card sort of thing...

Excellent news! I think paper certificates have already been phased out. You and your partner will get a plastic card called Carta di Soggiorno Permanente (Article 50 - Withdrawal Agreement).

Depending on where you live, you may need to book an appointment (online or by telephone) to pick up your residence cards.

Wait... unless you've applied for the Permanent Residence certificate for EU nationals. In that case, forget what I said about the CdS and go with philat98.

There's no (permanent) residence card for EU nationals in Italy - all they get is an optional paper certificate certifying their right of permanent residence/y. But this should be issued by the local town hall/comune, not by the police department/questura.

Hi daniel! Thanks for replying.

We have applied for and will be receiving the permanent certificate for EU nationals - it's good to know we don't have to apply for another card!

We have the WA Brexit card which we will need to renew and I'll be sorting the tessera sanitaria cards soon - looking forward to not paying 4,000 euros next year :fingerscrossed:
