Default No-deal Brexit

Have been worrying about the consequences of a No Deal Brexit, and would be grateful for any clarification that anyone can offer on one point. We have residenza anagrafica, and at present spend about 4-5 months a year in Italy. In the event of a No Deal Brexit we, as UK nationals, will immediately become 3rd country nationals and subject to the normal rules on entry and stay covering non-EU citizens, unless the Italian Government introduces special and no doubt temporary concessions (which obviously one can't count on, especially with Salvini in office). As I understand it - and I may well have got this wrong, as the Ministero del Interno and Polizia del Stato websites aren't are all that clear - we would then be limited to staying in Italy for no more than 90 days in any six month period. I interpret this to mean a rolling six month period; but is that right? And a further point: a friend has told us that once the 90 days are up it wouldn't be possible to return to Italy within 3 months. I can't find any reference to such an additonal restriction on the official websites, but is that the case?
It may well be that nobody now knows what a post- No Deal Brexi would look like; but my question is really what the rules already now are for citizens of e.g. Australia or South Africa. If anyone on this Forum can help I'd e most grateful

If we return to Permessi di soggiorno and all that, you should ask for residenza elettiva which will allow you to stay here with no limit on your stay - but youll need to renew it every year with all that entails. Nobody knows what is going to happen really

You should find these 2 sites pretty helpful and up-to-date on the possible outcomes for UK citizens in Italy in both a deal and a no deal scenario and give advice about how best to prepare.

Of course they cant really tell whether you have been out of Italy or not, but being a resident means filling in tax returns and if you havent done that over the previous years, things may get complicated. -

It reads like Italy is more prepared for no deal Brexit than the UK.

Unless I missed Salvini unilaterally guaranteeing British citizens’ residence rights come what may then it’s not.

Salvini hasn't got time for that type of prosaic detail. He is spending his summer taking selfies, riding on police beach rescue boats and cuddling pole dancers. Give the man a chance.!

Pretty standard fare for an Italian politician to be fair.

Yep, bit like the UK government with their 15 weeks off, nothing going on this summer so time for crazy golf and holidays.

Parliament is in recess for five weeks; the government never sleeps.

They have been asleep for at least 3 years, many would argue a lot more!

Thanks for the update, on a personal note this is particularly frustrating for me: " On citizenship, it does put into law (irrespective of the form Brexit takes) the right of UK citizens with 4 years residence at the date of Brexit to be able to apply for Italian citizenship, relying on that 4 year period, up to 31 December 2020." - On October 31, I will have been resident in Italy for... 3 years, 50 weeks!

I wouldn't be surprised if we were still EU citizens in November. British companies are filled with these can do bosses promising a new golden age.
