Default New car and insurance

We already have a car, my husband is the insured driver and I just drive very occasionally. I'm considering/hoping to get something that I can drive and park which is a lot smaller. Not having had any insurance for over 10 years I guess that I'm back to new driver status when it comes to insurance. Can anyone give me any tips on getting a car which is small and less costly on the insurance. A mini would be good as I had one many many moons ago but I tried a preventivo yesterday and it was over €700. Could we get away with my husband insuring it and me driving?

In Italy, it's the actual car that is insured and not the individual driver so the insurance can be in your husband's name.

Have you ever owned a car in Italy? If not, you can use the Legge Bersani for a cheaper car insurance.

Thanks for that, I'd seen something about it but I didn't really understand, I'll try and have another look!

Can anybody tell me how much the change of ownership costs are likely to be

...and thanks Lorna, if the insurance is too expensive I might try doing it my husband's name and hope he doesn't leave me!

Change of ownership should be around the 350 to 400 mark for a small 2nd hand car
