Hello, Im new to the group but so pleased to have found it.:thumbsup:

I am moving to Chieri in the New Year and wondered if any other members were from that area?

Also does anyone have good recommendations for removals from the UK to Italy?

Hi: regarding removals, that may depend on whereabouts in the UK (presumably) that you are moving from. We moved over about 3 years ago to the Veneto and used Wheadon's - a company we had used for 3 moves within England. They were absolutely first class, as usual. They did all the packing for us with great care; nothing broken and nothing went missing; they arrived at the promised time and immediately unpacked. I notice that they are now specialising in European removals.

We used GB Liners. Great service and prompt delivery. In fact they rang us the day before the due date and asked if they could deliver a day early

We are moving from Wiltshire to Piemonte and have 1750 cubic sq ft of clutter and have been quoted 3500 euros by an Italian remover to £6500 by a removers in Kent and a few in between. We plan to pack ourselves. Could anyone let me know what to expect cost wise??

You are tootling off on a fantastic adventure, what do YOU think you'd like to pay ? I guess somewhere in the middle...............go for it, you have your whole life ahead, a few hundred euros/pounds here and there.............5 years time it'll be history and nothing.


IF you get a bargain basement deal and it doesn't work out, you'll think and say 'if only we'd gone with....'

We paid about £4000 for about 1100 kgs that included haggling for a discount as they weren’t the cheapest quote but we preferred them. We packed most things and they provided all the boxes etc. They packed tv, bed etc. They took everything to their storage before it went on the shipping lorry. Would definitely use them again

I think our move cost £5,000 for the contents of a 3 bed cottage (don't know the cu.ft) which included all the packing as I said. When we later moved within Italy the work was dreadfully clumsy and slap-dash, for example thinking that a bit of cling-film was sufficient for delicate objects. This difference in quality of service may in part be down to the economics of the housing markets being so diverse: in the UK there are many removal companies with experienced staff servicing the far higher turnover of houses, whereas the Italian market is moribund with fewer removal companies and those that exist seem to employ any Tomaso, Riccardo or Aroldo when required that they find available without experience.

Most moves in our village involve Aroldo's 1980 Fiat Panda with roofrack and farm trailer. The uncovered double bed is tied on to the roof with string and everything else popped into the trailer.

We went with P'fords.Moved from N wales to Abruzzo. Contents of a 2 bed apartment including washing machine (which touch wood still functions 8 years later). They packed everything and unpacked the large items here in Italy-bed wardrobes etc. They made special crates for 2 large flat screen tv's.Even stopped to pick up a new fridge for us! It was one huge trailer packed to the gunnels, including a cement mixer, lawn mower, pottery bench etc etc - the contents of a large garden shed. Not cheap, think it was about £5000.00 They lost 2 crates but eventually found one in Germany and forwarded it to us. Nothing was broken. When/if we move from our present abode I'd get a UK company to do it without a shadow of a doubt.
I think it's worth every penny to get in a professional company that are insured- for your peace of mind. Moving all your chattels out of the UK is nerve-wracking.
