Cool Move to UMbria

Have just returned from 2 great weeks in Italy. We're planning to move to Umbria next year after we both take early retirement. We plan to be in Lake Trasimeno area. We are wondering whether to rent for a bit before buying a house and would really appreciate others views about this and comments about other possible areas. Looking forward to the move although lots to do before then not least improving our Italian!!

Hello,
We are located near lake Trasimeno although we have had our house for ten years we only moved out permanently last year. Yes definitely rent for a year or so we know of plenty of houses you could rent very reasonably depending on what you want. We would be more than happy to offer advice or share experience's when you are out here again. As you will see on this site there is a lot of people with untold knowledge to wade through all the potential problems and worries, I have been helped many times on here so sort out different things.

Hi Fliss
We have a home here in Passignano and spend about half the year. The location is lovely and perfectly suited for all of wonderful Umbria. Also train to Florence and Rome. We didn't realise until we got here what a well placed location it was. We just came because it was beautiful. All advice about renting is good.
Best wishes

Many thanks for the advice and offer of help. We retire next June/July so will probably be after that. We probably will want to rent as our house is not yet on the market but will be in the next few months.
We stayed in Castel Rigone this time and loved the area. One thing we do want is a view as one of the ways we love to relax is to sit in the garden and look at the view - we have a great one here in Wales. Also like the area around Bevagna/Montefalco/Gualdo Cattaneo.
Looking forward to having some good conversations with everyone over next few months.

Buongiorno, Fliss! Have you already moved to Lake Trasimeno area? If so, hope all is going well and you are enjoying Umbrian life. My husband and I have been living in Spoleto for 5 years -- full time --- and find Umbria a delightful location. Unfortunately, because of aging mothers who need our help, we are returning to the States in the fall of this year. We have been renting this whole time and have a houseful of very nice furnishings, appliances, and electronics (home theater) for sale at excellent prices. Get in touch if you are interested. All the best with your transition!
