Living in Sardinia
Hello, I am travelling to Sardinia in April for 3 months and would like to meet up with anyone already living there who can give me some pertinent advice and help. I am intending to buy a property and relocate by the end of the year. Anything gratefully received. Annessandra.

Do you have any ideas about where you want to settle? We are also intending to move out there, not until 2009/10 though. Good luck with your search.

Hello, thanks so much for your reply, and in answer, no I don't know yet where I will settle, hence the 3 months to travel and look about the island. What I do know is I want somewhere peaceful and not too busy, somewhere where the real Sardinia still exists. Thanks for the website, I shall have a good look at it. Keep in touch, I should have sorted myself out before you if you are not intending to move there before next year, perhaps I will be able to give you some help!!! Anyway, all the best, Keep looking and listening and you will hear how I'm progressing, lovely to hear from you, Annessandra.

Re: Living in Sardinia
Hi all, just saw this thread, I am looking for a place in sardinia in 2009, going over in Feb / March, to see somer properties. I want some land and a property to renovate 20 to 30 miles from the coast (could be more).
I want to know how much agricultural land costs per 2m
I believe i would pay 18% tax on final price for agri. land
Building must be registered on the land registry before I buy, otherwise i would have to pay, do not know how much this is?
I want to buy outright, with no morgage
I am trying to learn italian
I am OK with carpentry / redecs / plastering / roofing / 1st & 2nd fixing, but will need electrical and plumbing help. I am willing to trade some of my skills for help on others properties for help on mine (when i get it)
If some one who already resides in sardinia knows of a property for sale or can help in any way for a property search it would be very much appreciated. Regards, Boyde

Keep up with the Italian, you will need it. I don't know if you intend living here full time, or using the property as a second home, either way you really do need to speak the language, especially embarking on a project like this. Sardinia is a very beautiful island, but very different to mainland Italy and a totally different culture to the UK.
If you need any advice or help translating etc, just drop me a PM - best of luck with what you do

Re: Living in Sardinia
When i was there this year land seemed to be going at about 10,000 - 20,000 euros a hectare... the real trouble was drilling a well and then the pump breaking.

Re: Living in Sardinia
hello everyone, still looking, many thanks Fransarda for your offer, very much appreciated.
Fransada, I want to buy in the south if possible, because i live about 8 miles from luton which as u know flies to Cagliari, I am looking to buy about 1 to 3 hectares but it must be able to either be connected to electrical services or can be, same with water, but i think i will have to drill, how do persons go about testing the water quality and are there any problems in certain areas concerning whether it is safe to drink?
I would like the land to have as many trees as possible on it, possibly a stream or river running through it, and i am not worried about it being a bit remote, but how long does it take to cross the island?
Tom thanks for the info , any ideas on how deep u have to go to find water in the south of the island and how much it costs, cost is probaly by the (metre) depth.

I've never heard of anyone drilling for water- again you would need to check out if that's possible locally - you wouldn't want to end up diverting someone else's water source. Tap water here is drinkable, in fact there is a big movement afoot to encourage everyone to drink it because of the huge plastic bottle problem - I think I read recently that Italy is number one in the world for this.I've been drinking it for a couple of years now with no ill effects as I got fed up with trawling home all those bottles from the supermarket. I think you can get an analysis done pretty easily, I have a friend who used to do this who also has property in Cagliari, I'll try and find out a bit more about it.
For land with any sort of building on it expect to pay much more, and if the info says planning permission is available to build, I would advise you to treble check that - it might be available but in 2100 or something.
Crossing the island by car from north to south can take about 3-4 hours, from east to west a couple of hours.
Finally try googling immobiliare Cagliari and see what comes up, should give you some ideas
Ps be aware that the Capoterra/Sestu area of Cagliari has had some really terrible flooding in recent weeks, not for the first time, so view any bargains in that area with caution, you might need to build an ark to live there.

Re: Living in Sardinia
Hello Fransarda, i read on a forum where a poster mentioned drilling for water so I took that as normal inland, but have no problems with any of the water provided.
I have been sent various properties from agencies which are basically "scrub land with a ruin on it" for crazy prices (u can by a new house in england 25 miles away from London for the same)
I can understand someone wanting to make a profit, but being ripped is not part of my plan. Can I ask all previous posts how much their land costs were when buying.
I will visit end of february / March , but I do not think i will deal with agencies, i will head inland and ask at town / villages / hotels / town halls etc.
many thanks Graham

You can drill a borehole for water. It's quite common where I live in the east of Sardinia where there is no mains water. It costs between about 3-4000 euros complete with pump.
Prices here are very expensive compared to England and mainland Italy. It's best to head inland to get cheaper deals. However it's not easy to find locals who will want to sell direct foreigners.
It takes about 2 hours to get from Cagliari to the east of Sardinia by car.
Good luck with your search
