Re: Letter from INPS
What you need to remember here is the fact there are two pension calculations involved. One is under totally domestic legislation using only domestic contributions and the other the combination of all EU contributions. What is important in the latter and possibly regards Nick’s post is the EU legislation whereby a claim date in one country has to be accepted as a valid claim date in another. I suspect the reasoning behind this is to do with the fact you have differing retirement ages. At the time I worked on these the UK had 65 for men, Italy something like 60 and Denmark 67. A claim made in Italy then should trigger INPS to calculate and pay their pension, BUT they also would be responsible to initiate a claim to the other institutions as and when applicable. I’m sure domestic law will come into it, but we would accept almost anything as a valid claim date in the UK and pay out full arrears if applicable.

Re: Letter from INPS
Great links, but something like this and the wording can be misleading.
"Responsible for processing" Mmmm... "processing" from a UK point of view is to issue a claim (E202) on your behalf and your UK record (E205(UK)) and chase for an E210 (claim result/decision). Rarely would they get an E205 (record) from a third party involved and pass it on to another as part of "processing" someone's claim(s) for them. But there is some very interesting information there for everyone to read and it's an "official" site. However the EU regs for this were equal to about 5 bibles, bit like UK regs only bigger and red covered. I hasten to add only ever really used for appeals which thankfully were rare.
That country is then responsible for processing your claim and bringing together records of your contributions from all the countries you worked in.

Thanks for this Geordieborn. In my case I have exceeded retirement age in both France and Italy and the delays are just due to the very slow administrative procedures. Luckily most people have enough money saved to last 18 months on retiring until they get their pension hopefully with arrears: I have just continued working
