Re: learning italian
Ooh there are some TOP tips above for me to investigate - thanks to all - all very useful for me.
Yes, I agree Earworms is limited but IF the original poster has not learned languages for many years, as I hadn't, after investigating and trying various routes I found it the quickest way to initially learn hundreds of basic words that were instantly banked into my memory and I also learned many, many phrases that are meant to be interchangeable - so once you have banked them all you end up using them with other words in various situations. As you go along the learning route you find other words that mean the same thing but by now you've banked so many words/phrases that you can easily add the new word to your memory. I agree there are definite flaws with Michel Thomas! So I stopped after the free CD No. 2. But I found the info helpful (though his students in his fake class were irritating). Obviously I'm talking from the viewpoint of an aged brain for learning languages and a not brilliant memory, so I appreciate the OP might not need the same route I took. Thanks again for all the tips - so helpful for me. |

Do you have a grounding in any other Romance language? Did you do French at school? Are you competent in any language other than English?

Sunnysider...................W.O.W. !!!
GREAT links, I am basically lazy and also just not good at langages (with the possible exception of English !:( ) I also arrived here from Cheshire some years ago, had lessons for months before we arrived, got here, had more lessons locally, and then...........I went back to watching UK TV and speaking English at home. What Italian I had learnt has just slowly diminished over time. By a very large margin, my main weakness is understanding the spoken Italian word rather than (say) reading. The speed at which the locals here speak (oh by the way in dialetto !) is just well out of reach for me to grasp ! We do listen to a lot of Italian radio, and I can just about get my head around what the programme presenters are saying but in live conversations in the street I struggle. Having said that, we love it all here ! Right..............off to those websites !! PSG |
