Well I can't contribute to this one.... my OH is the quintessential English gentleman - Italians can pick him out a mile off by his blazer and Panama, whereas I can pass for an Italian until I open my mouth!

Okay - I'll bite.

In many respects my Italian OH is not such a typical Veneto bloke anyway so that makes it easier to live with him.
He travelled a lot before he met me so knew that the Veneto and indeed Italy is not the be all and end all. He was independant and pretty much a rebel in some of these closed knit communities and small towns/villages. He'd met loads of different girls and knew that the Italian ones didn't necessarily make the best wife/mother/friend. In fact he thought that plenty of Italian girls played too many mind games in love me/love me not and he couldn't be arsed with all that fakey flirting and mind playing.

How does he differ from the average English bloke? I'm not sure I know as I never dated that many English blokes. I was already here for my 20th birthday having my head turned by charming but ultimately shallow Italians. I learnt fast to weed out the bad seed.

My OH drinks less beer than the average blokey. He drinks more pints in the UK with my dad and family than he does here. He likes a drop of good wine though and now and again, a good grappa.

He doesn't have a mad group of blokey mates. He knows hundreds of people but is only close to a few and doesn't really have a best mate. That says more about him though being a bit reserved than being blokey or not.

He doesn't believe much in credit and buying things to show off or anything. Not that every UK bloke does but there is certainly more credit card debt there than here. If you can't pay for it, don't buy it (unless it's a car or a house). But that's my reasoning too...... brought up as a thrifty Yorkshire lass.

I don't think I'm qualified enough for this game. I could do better if the game was "why is your OH not a typical Italian?"

mmm - this is difficult. My OH isn't a typical italian cos he lived with me in the UK for 14 years. In fact a couple of my English workmates who are married to Italians moan about the fact that their OH expects pasta at lunchtime whereas mine is quite happy with a sandwich (trained him well )
So on the whole I can't say he's too different - he understands that I sometimes I need a girly night or that I drink wine 'outside' mealtimes. I suppose one of our bugbears is religion which we simply dont discuss - I dont like the catholic religion and so avoid talking about it. But thats not even really cos he's italian is it? He even likes English TV

(ooh just remembered his very italian thing is that he insists on bread with everything - if we eat ham or cheese without bread he simply thinks it is quite gross )

Mine might be similar to yours, even though he never lived in the UK he does like it. He doesn't expect me to cook lunch - he never comes home for lunch and sometimes I might say to him "what do you fancy for dinner?" but that just means "I haven't planned a dinner and I can't be arsed to cook anything much so if you want rice, make rice or polenta or pasta if that's what you want." He can cook so I don't see why he shouldn't sometimes.

My OH rocks ! Mmm different, she's sex mad for a start. does all the things every english woman ive ever met (and thats plenty) seems shy about, Italian women and ive met a few dont seem to bother at all, its like "Normal" to them. If you get my drift.

Italian women in my opinion are like British women where 40 or 50 years ago. They believe in cooking,looking after the family, taking care of things, taking care of themselves, where as British women especially younger ones only think about going out with the girls and getting as pissed as possible and making total fools of themselves. Obviously this is a generalization, i'm not saying everyone is like that from differing countries, but, having lived all over Europe and talking generally, i can definitely say that British women are the pits, in behavior and personality. No class what-so-ever ! And the guys are no different either and i dont blame the girls on here for trying to seek out something better.

Trying to think of reasons why my Italian OH is different
He is a true Gentleman, not afraid to show emotion, drinks to be sociable (not to get rat arsed), intellectual, loves cooking, is a total family man and doesn't question how much I spend on clothes

NOT that British Men are none of these (there are too many of you on here) but compared to previous (mainly foreign boyfriends)!
