We're not all that far from you, and get broadband through Clouditalia, which is line-of-site and picked up by a small antenna on the roof. Cna get 7 mbps and hugely cheaper than satellite internet. Our local installer is Stormdrop Informatica in Ghivizzano: very helpful and speak English. You may have someone nearer, but worth giving them a ring. 0583 180 4545 (nb closed Monday am)

Avoid satellite except as a last resort. if you can use a line of site WIMAX service then its worth a try - you will probably have various providersin your area - it all depends on hills and other stuff.

Hi thank you everyone, we will look into your suggestions further as an option for us.
We are going to take stock of what others might have when we return later this week. Cheers

I am using satellite broadband at 16 GBP per month.. and I can go up and down to 20MB download dependent on my time in Italy... faster than most areas on TIM./WIND etc...

Take a look at www.skydsl.eu as I have been using for some time and they are totally unlimited..
