IMU
We are resident in Italy and thinking about moving to a new area. One agent said the annual tax on the house we were looking at would be €xx pa - we were under the impression (as residents) we do not pay IMU as this will be our main home. Any thoughts..... Thanks in advance

Re: IMU
First thing to be aware of is the fact house tax in Italy changes like the wind.... We left 2018 and it looks to me (on a brief search) it has changed every year since! If you go to the Comune site it will have details of what is payable for this year. On the face of it, and from what you have posted, I would check your payments (or lack of) for the previous years.

Well I certainly have not kept up to date, but a quick look, it seems to me things have changed, and this year as well! I have only looked at 2 comuni, but both are pointing to this riscotel site for calculating AND it is IMU only for 2021 (not IUC) - things look to have changed to me...

Re: IMU
Hi, If your italian house is your main residence or just a holiday home it still is liable for IMU, The comune collect it on a six monthly rata..it is lower than the UK for example .. 300 euro per annum = 150 x two in any one year. Hope this helps and apologies if im mistaken.

Re: IMU
If you move your residency to a new home then for now you will not pay IMU on the new property if it is a normal house and not a castle or stately home as Concierge says. IMU has been combined with TASI and is a single payment for 2021.

It is an old palazzo so I think that is why there is tax and why it's quite high. At least we understand it now. Thanks to everyone
