Default Horrible events due to weather

I read a BBC article the other day about 5 deaths in northern Italy due to bad weather. Now this BBC article on the South, it's awful. We often have seen real bad weather here, but of late have seen nothing the likes of this. Hope no one here has been impacted by it all.

A lot of those trees that were knocked down in the north were Sitka spruce that were planted after the war and not adapted to the terrain and climate like the forestry commision did in the UK. The woods in Umbria are filled with half dead conifers just waiting to fall and the forest tracks are often blocked with fallen trees after the mildest of storms.

It's a real tragedy. I can't remember anything as bad as this since the early 80's. So many lives needlessly lost, often due to illegal building and dirt track extensions covered in asphalt. Trees down due to wild fires started deliberately and deforestation. We have to accept the fact that the whole country is geologically unstable anyway.
The worst that happened to me personally was a flooded bedroom, due to my own stupidity in not shutting doors and getting blinds down quickly enough.

Footnote to above. Just been informed by my olive expert that we have no olives left on the trees worth harvesting. Hate having to buy olive oil.
