Help in Veneto

Hi guys,

I am turning to you very helpful people to see if you could give me any ideas as I appear to have hit a brick wall. I have moved to Padova on the promise of a job, which on arrival (and after moving my worldy goods down here) has fallen through. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of where to turn next for a job ?

I have tried everywhere that I can think of, including the job agencies, websites such as trovit, craigslist and bacheca, the paper portobello, but nothing seems to be coming up. I have emailed every english school in the vicinity (As this is what I originally came here to do, to teach) b ut again nothing, I know it it still August and things are very quiet but I'm approaching the end of my desperation.

If anyone has any ideas, I would gladly listen as I'm now just walking round every city/town hadning out CV's like leaflets !

THanks for any help,

Tom

If you like ironing you can do all mine for cash in hand  I have hours worth of it piled up.

Joking apart - every single school will be closed so you won't get any joy out of them until September. Even the "normal" Italian schools don't open again until September 12th. Sorry the original plans fell through.

If you have enough money to keep you going - you'll have to hang on until September

Hang in there, keep getting those CVs sent to every English school in the area. As Lorna mentioned, most schools are closed so don't be too despondent if you don't get a reply. Things should pick up mid-Sept. In the meantime place notices for English lessons and conversation with a 'real' English person at tobacconists, newsagents, supermarkets. Hopefully you get a couple of private pupils which could tide you over for a bit.

That's true ... especially teens who have to re-sit an exam in September.

Teens...? Really? I hadn't thought of that. I'll put some notices out myself in that case.

Yeah - high school age kids. Plenty of them have to take an exam in September to make up their marks or risk being "bocciato".
I can't remember the exact Italian term now but think it might be something like "esami di riparazione". It's to give them the chance to bring their vote up from an 'insufficient' to a better grade so that they pass the school year.

Good advice for the OP, Lorna, but I somehow think Duffer wasn't thinking about teaching English ;)

Oh God! My brain is frazzled in this heat.
Not sure I'd want to send any kids of mine to Duffer to learn English. They'd probably come back with a vast assortment of swear words and London slang and nothing much good for school exams

Yep, swear words, and they will know all about sex and porn.

Sorry Tom, I went OTT.

Chin up and wait till September. The English/Int. schools start on 7th of Sept. here in Rome, so maybe is the same in your area.
Good luck.
