Hi Pulaski,
local usage is the key. All depends on whether or not you want to be known as living in Sorrento or S.Agnello. The circumvesuviana bridge over the main road marks the official boundary. The 'molinari' circled in red on first image is in Sorrento, the apartment buildngs opposite, S.Agnello.
ciao for now,

Had a look at my google maps street view. All present and correct Sept.'19. As you can see no sign of imaginary roundabout. Have to go to S.Agnello Wed. so will recheck my facts.
Just out of interest from the 'story of my life' you can see where the bus and merc van are t stacked up a big tree.
That is the block where I lived from 1969 to 1990. We are S.Agnello, 'molinari' straight opposite Sorrento.

The problem about getting to the Sorrento peninsula from Naples by car/bus is the occasional big delays passing through the tunnels. In the holiday months these delays can even be several hours at the worst time of day so it may be a bit of a nightmare getting to the airport for an evening flight

I have marked the approximate area of that first image on the map below - which is what Google Maps tells me is S Agnello (pale grey, red perimeter line) with the station at least 200m inside the nearest boundary, near Via S Vito & SS145.
Off the bottom of the map below S. Agenello extends, according to Google Maps, all the way to the southern coast of the penninsula in roughly a recatangular shape.
Is all this correct, or is there another version of what "S Agnello" means locally?

Google has not got it quite right on its western borderline. On the southern section
both Hotel Cristina and Hotel Gran Paradiso are in Sorrento. The borderline is on a difficult rocky cliff, that might explain the error. On the northern coastal section,
the Hotel Mediterraneo is S.Agnello, hotels Cocumella and Parco dei Principi Sorrento.
The avenue between them is the borderline (disputed).
The eastern borderline is also a bit tricky, where the Conad superstore stands, S.Agnello says it's our square, Piano di Sorrento says 'oh no, it's our's.
Again, the main borderline is also a busy avenue.
Local politics are quite fun.
Of course until the 1940's it was all agricultural land, and all one comune.
Then postwar 4 comuni were created, and building and roadway development screwed everything up.

We stayed at an hotel in S Agnello for our honeymoon! A short, but perilous walk into Sorrento, due to the - then - non existent pavements and busy road.
We have used the circumvesuviana a few times. It can get very packed, but we enjoyed the experience. Naples main railway station is a confusing place, but if you ask politely somebody will always help you!
Getting from the airport to the train station is a regular shuttle bus. Again it can get busy. The bus station is right next to the train station and there are many regular buses from there to Sorrento.
Sorrento and S Agnello are lovely places. We have been back often, it is now possible for us as a day trip! I hope you have a great time!
