Getting mains water installed
Hello - just wondering if anyone has gone through the process of getting mains water installed in Italy. We have a property in Sardinia and have only ever had water brought in by bowser until now. However, our neighbours on both sides have decided that they would like to have mains water installed (which means crossing the road somehow before reaching our properties). The have asked us if we are interested in participating and therefore sharing the cost. The quotes so far have been rather high compared to what we would expect in the UK - and that's before we even start talking about standing charges etc once installed. We currently only visit the house 5 or 6 times a year and have family/friends staying in between, so unsure if it's worth the hassle!
If anyone has any experience of going through this, would love to hear how it went and any costs. Many thanks!

We had water installed last year. They cut a 2m long trench in the road to reach the main and gave us a plastic pipe with a meter. The work took 3 months from the order and cost Euro1000 with the first bill of Euro200 and no water consumed!

You have to build a little insulated box to house the meter. They left our pipe just on the roadside and anybody passing who needed water could have just helped themselves.

Sardinia is probably more like Sicily, where you have to do the work yourself with a contractor authorised by the comune at a price per meter. Which turns out to be very expensive. The meter you will pay for - they supply water up to the meter. And it can take 18 months for them to decide how and when.
