Flying with carseat

Flying with carseat
I am doing an international move and I want have my carseat at the final destination. I can check it with the airlines, I know that. But do I want to? It is a good pricey one and I have seen what the baggage handlers do to luggage? any thoughts on that?

We have a fairly expensive one too, a Foppapedretti given to us by my work colleagues. When we take it, we wrap it up in thick heavy duty transparent plastic, this at least prevents scratches, and the baggage tag is clearly visible.
